We get a text every time ours goes out or comes back on. It depends if they have installed smart meters at your place. They know the daily amount of electricity you use per day...

Not quite the same but my brother recieves a text when the generator kicks on at my mother's house.

There are apps in the Apple App Store. Just search for "power outage". Don't use any myself, so can't vouch for any specific one.

Same here. Plus I have a freeze alarm in case the automatic standby generator does not kick in. And we can go to the Hydro One power outage map to see what is going on.
