Finally got power after tornado.

My Grandson is back here in Missouri now. He moved two of their three Storm Trucks to Benton Kentucky. They will start working next week after Christmas. They are working under FEMA control.

Benton is 20 miles NE of Mayfield. Benton is a town of 4,800 people. He sent me a video he shot as they drove thru part of the town. It's bad.

I'll post any additional info I get from him and pics/videos when they start working next week. So far I'm not smart enough to attach his video here. I'll keep trying.

Prayers to these residents. This is really bad.

Benton itself was missed, though there may be some peripheral damage. The bad damage was outside of town in mostly rural or residential areas along I-69. The red triangles in the upper right corner are the worst of the damage where many very expensive homes were completely leveled with EF 4 damage.

If you look closely at the map above you will see that the tornado made a slight kink to the north and bypassed the main part of Benton. If it had gone straight it would have hit the Walmart, gas stations, and an area with mostly businesses but few homes. If it had kinked slightly to the south it would have gone thru a residential area. The main damage and deaths in Marshal County came at Moors Campground, a recreational and residential area on Kentucky Lake. One SIL is a twenty+ year member of the local volunteer fire department. He worked on the recovery and cleanup in that area. They had to block the roads and restrict access in that area because of looting. The looting was mainly out of staters with the worst being a few locals.

My take, any of those caught looting should be given a severe lead poisoning and left for the crows.

My Grandson's crews will begin work this morning. He didn't give me details as to the location of their assigned work area. I'll ask for more info.

FEMA will assign each crew a specific area. When they've cleaned that area to satisfy inspection they will be given another area. I don't know what criteria exactly is used to determine these areas.

In this picture he sent you can see homeowners that are able to save their homes have already began reconstruction by getting them weather proof first. There's already been a lot of work done to open the roads.

The power of tornados never ceases to amaze me. Total devastation in less than a minute. Good luck to your grandson with his work. (y)

I have not seen the findings. Did they figure if that was one long tornado setting the record for longest time a tornado was on the ground?

I'm not sure that's bveen finalized, but from what I've seen so far, I'd say not. There is a void in the track west of Union City, TN and I'm not sure if it lifted for a few miles or if one dissipated and a second one formed, or if the surveys just aren't complete yet. There are a few stray survey points in that void marking damage, but they could be just that ... strays.

If you watch half a dozen times the video RSKY posted it begins to soak in.
