Anybody use Paypal ?

So. I assume you guys print out a statement and send it with a check in the mail to paypal?
I just pay my PayPal account online using my debit card. There is really no risk that I’m uncomfortable with. I have had debit card fraud in the past (from gas pumps, not online); I called my bank and they credited my account for the fraud and sent me a new card.

I've bought stuff twice paid via PayPal and the seller sent me garbage and PayPal said "seller says they sent you and provided tracking that shows it was delivered". I didn't get what I ordered - they sent a 5¢ child's toy not a roller for my vacuum but pp didn't care because I received "a package". They immediately closed the "inquiry" and refused to reopen it.

I closed my pp account and won't use it again.

(My credit card which the PayPal was connected through refunded me, so while I'm not out any money, I don't need the stress or loss of time - at this point my assumption is if a "merchant" only takes PayPal that they're a scammer.)
I have had two instances in the past year of seller fraud: the first time, the seller sent me a low quality product, and recently I never received the product. I opened a claim with PP and both times PP refunded my money after a ten day notice to the seller. Love working with PP because of their fraud protection.

No - I've never used PP. Just use my credit card.
Paypal is far safer when you send money to questionable accounts. Think foreign countries like Russia and China or African countries.
I had no idea they ever did paper statements.

I have used PP hundreds of times. Most recently today to send money to Mt. Athos. I have received money several times over it for sales. Sent money all over the world.

I should have been clearer on my first post. Paypal doesn't send statements. My paypal extras credit card funds paypal and they have stopped sending mailed statements. Whoever heard of a CC company not sending you a bill? Yes, I'm pissed !

It seems like you are a casualty of the push in the last few years for paperless billing. I used to want paper receipt, but I spent so much time shredding them later. I never agree to paperless billing because I wonder what I have to do if I experienced computer problems. But over the years, fewer and fewer companies send me paper bills. Very few now. Even CC accounts. But that may be because I pay accounts online. They may have decided I didn't need paper. It would not surprise me if in the future they try to offer paper only for a fee. In an attempt to get rid of all paper billing.

PayPal has recourse if there is problems with the sale - like did not receive item, or was not correct. Over 20 years there have been 3 times someone did not ship and PayPal reimbursed the account. - no loss. As mentioned above, I link a bank account and backup credit card. I do not restock money in paypal from my account. All purchases are paid directly from the linked bank account. PayPal is a banking system, just as any other bank. I use online banking for everything, even with my local bank. I also DO NOT use a cell phone for banking business. I use my computer and all passwords are created and managed by LastPass. LP uses 2nd factor authentication with a otp (one time password). Safer than mailing a check.
Selling is a larger issue.

Hm... I dunno. I have never seen a bill from a Credit Card company either. Although I have never run a balance with a credit card company either. Always pay them off. Maybe they do send them if you run a balance. But I have never seen one.

I do not have a paypal account because I would use it so little. I did use paypal through a CC as that was the only payment the company would accept. I never received the item. I called Paypal and they said I had to set up an account to make a claim. I had problems with them years ago and do not want another account with them. Consequently I called my CC and they had to do the cancellation for me and it is still in dispute. Paypal is not a company I want to do business with. My credit cards are much more service oriented.

Well, if you have always paid online they likely would not mail a statement.

I have a 5/3 visa that I've had for 35 years and use it every month. They mail a statement and I drop a check off at the local 5/3 bank. I think I'll try to change funding for paypal back to my 5/3 card and see what happens.

Pay Pal has been easier and more service oriented for my transactions than my banks have been for credit cards.

I have never dealt with a company that will only accept PP. I see no reason to get a third party( PP ) involved in monetary transactions. I really don't do that much buying over the internet. Internet is for research - then I buy locally.

I find it difficult to imagine a situation when I'd send money to a questionable account.

I used PP once, and by the time they got their errors straightened out I knew I'd NEVER deal with them again.

Not hard to imagine at all. I do it all the time to pay for postage and whatever "skim" these entities want for a QSL (acknowledgement of communications) card. Yes there are electronic acknowledgements ie. Log Book of the World that is free.

And that is great when these entitles participate and most do. But many still will only QSL via a paper card. There are thousands of "us" wanting their rare and exotic entities. They want postage, and increasingly a lot of them want "something extra" to send you their card. You are at their mercy if you want the card. Either pay up or don't get the entity.

There are 340 of these "countries" worldwide, and the goal is to collect them all on as many bands as possible. Many of the very backward countries have "managers" who may also be in countries like Russia etc. They handle the transactions for them as there may be no banking facility's in the wanted backward country at all.

Point is I don't want to send my credit card information to either the country in question NOR Russia for that matter. I really don't want to send it to any individual. Hence PayPal. They don't get any information from me, I get what I want, and they get what they want. The transaction is all done by the middle man known as PayPal. These types of "middlemen" exist because neither side of the transaction trusts the other.

Check? What are checks? :) I have online paperless banked for so long, checks are just a distant memory. Why would I spend money in the form of fuel and wear and tear on a automobile to drop off payments for anything or deal with a bank any more than I have to? Why would I want statements mailed to the house? It is just paper to shred and dispose of. Why would anyone want a paper paycheck that you have to stand in line to deposit when your employer will happily direct deposit that into your account. This is the 21st century, and frankly don't understand why people cling to 19th century banking. It is a mystery to me. Help me understand why people still do these things.

I look for websites that accept Paypal. That limits my exposure a lot for things I need online. If it's offshore, they don't get my business any other way.
Exactly. You don't trust them, and they don't need to trust you. With PayPal, no trust is needed. Do you think I would buy something from AliBaba and not use PayPay. I was born at night, but It wasn't LAST night.

James - back in the day - early to mid 60's - my QSL card and a "green stamp" in an envelope with the exotic ham managers call sign on the outside. Take it to the local QSL manager in Anchorage. Then wait ................ some would take five to seven months.

I still keep all those old card. A few from countries that no longer exists. I even have one from a political faction that eventually overthrew the government of Burma. To think - that transaction may have helped in their quest. Yes - lots of "green stamps" in those days. My novice call sign from Alaska was a hot item. Many cards from DXpeditions.
