Rim guard or not? Why a ballast box instead of boxblade?

One thing nobody has mentioned is CUTS/SCUTS are small and adding fluids to tires are not going to make a lot of difference due to small tire size... There for rear ballast...

Cuts are small and they are light. Adding fluids (or weights) to the rear tires make a diffrence that is proportional to the size of the tractor.

I had never thought about this so did some math regarding two of my tractors.

JD2210 SCUT weighs 1800 lbs. I added 84 lbs of fluid. 05% of the tractor weight.

Kubota M9540 weighs 10,500 lbs. I added 1,300 lbs of fluid. 12% of the tractor weight.

I don’t agree. Filling tires on my old JD 4100 added over 500# total and the fill on my new MX adds 1000# total. I know that on my small tractor that 500# made a significant difference in stability.

I can see it now, one foot in the tractor the other on the mower. Tie the steering together and "Bingo" mowing the lawn with two machines instead of one!

Our Bicentennial year was 2021 so our plates changed to celebrate that. But we still hafta be shown.

A popular tire size for SCUT's is 26x12-12. At 75% full, it will hold 8 gallons of fluid in each tire/wheel assy.

If I fill it with windshield washer antifreeze it would have about 65 lbs. of fluid. 130 lbs. on a <1400 lb. tractor isn't much. I think it would be more helpful to put that 130 lbs. behind the axle using suitcase weights.

A bigger tractor with bigger tires holding more fluid and a larger proportion of total weight will workout great.

I originally loaded my rears on the JD2210 to add stability for mowing steep slopes. I only added 5 gallon per tire to keep the weight low.

When we built our new house on this property that issue went away. Everything I mow is almost horizontal. So I drained the fluid to lighten the tractor.
