With all due respect I'm not necessarily "in fear of the unknown." What I am afraid of is getting stranded 10 miles from the nearest public road and farther from the nearest person on a winter day. I would prefer to at least see that acknowledged before I trade my gas pickup for a different source of pollution... even if we are passing our problems on to another nation.

It sounds like you're going to need a cyber truck to resolve your fear factor. With it you will not need to carry generator you'll have the ground clearance that you might need from time to time and you'll have power to haul donkeys or whatever. :)

Don't you think that might change? Tow truck shows up with some type of emergency charge type thingy...
It's no problem, the tow truck just picks up the car and drops it of at the closest charge station.

And the problem is not that big, most EV owners will know the car and it's limitations.

No, I just need to actually see some of these affordable, long range EVs which I'm told are coming... or at least get answers to some of the questions I've been asking for 2 years. Running out of fuel can be a life threatening situation, just like breaking down or getting stuck on the wrong road.

It may be 10 years before EVs will cover 90% of transportation needs. People know what their transportation needs are and what works for them and everybody can just do what works best for them. I have two old diesel tractors in the shop right now trying to make them last another 40 years.

Well, EVs don't cover all needs, if I was to take a road trip to Siberia a EV would be a very bad choise. But for 95% of my driving a EV would do, for most of it I could get by with a half dead Nissan Leaf.

The VA snowstorm traffic jam on Sunday/Monday highlights why the downside of EVs havent been thoroughly analyzed.
Hundreds of EV cars would die and leave motorists stranded in the cold for hours, even days. Could be a serious, dangerous problem.

And that's a point captured earlier in this thread...
EV's will probably work well in urban and suburban areas...as a sole source of transportation
They won't work in rural areas as a sole means of transportation.
For me, personally, an EV would be OK for local trips. Even though I'm in a fairly rural, there's shopping close enough to use an EV
