Tractor
1700 Ford
I have a Ford 1700 Farm tractor 4X4 that I bought to repair and use. The previous owner told me the clutch went out on the tractor. I started looking for anything else that could be the problem. I checked the hydraulic fluid and it was empty. When I brought the tractor home I cranked it and there is plent of clutch pedal and the gears are easy to shift. I put it in gear and tried to drive it and it will barely move in forward or reverse and the hydraulic lift on the back of the tractor doesn't work at all.I checked the hydraic fluid and it didn't have fluid in it and tried to drive it and no change. I wasted the fluid I put in it by draining it out and removing the strainer located on the right rear side of the tractor behind the right rear tire after removing it I couldn't believe how plugged up it was. i cleaned it thourghly reinstalled it, filled it up with hydraulic fluid, and tried to drive it and cleaning the strainer made absolutely no improvements to the travel speed, weakness of the transmission,or the hydraulic lift. I am at a loss I have asked several people and no one has any ideas of what to try next but I have been told by 2 people that if the clutch does need replacing it wouldn't affect the rear lift.According to the owner both the transmission/clutch problem and the hydraulic lift problem happened at exactly the same time and I believe the seller because he is a good person with integrity, Could someone please share any ideas that you may have with me? I would appreciate it very much. Also, one more thing, does anyone know if this model of tractor has a wet clutch or not sorry for the long message.

So it has a manual transmission?

If so, the hydraulics should have nothing to do with tractor not moving forward or reverse!

Yes it has a standard transmissio with no shuttle or anything like that. It will barely move regardless of what gear you have it in and its cery weak it wouldnt even pull itself in my shop because of a slight incline. It runs absolutely perfect I am at a loss if you have any ideas I would greatly appreciat it if you would share them with me,thanks for your time sir.

I would first determine if the clutch is slipping; put it in a higher gear (3H or so) and push against a big tree. Under normal situation, the tractor will stall. I had a similar age compact tractor with a bad clutch, gradually got worse and worse. Had to split tractor (took it to shop) to replace. The lack of hydraulic power is unrelated; somehow you need to determine if the pump itself is operating correctly. Probably easy to get at with tractor split.
