Just because you cannot smell it don't mean it's not spewing pollutants, just a different kind.

Ya, I love emission motors. I quit trucking after 36 years because these new motors were making me suicidal. Every second day, trip to the dealer.
So got a job as an equipment operator in a mine. The new cat loader I run has been going strong for the year and half I have had it. It even had me thinking "maybe Cat off road equipment has this figured out better than the Cummins and Detroits I had in my last three trucks."

Well yesterday, minus 40 and got a whole bunch of codes and messages on display....service emissions, NOX sensor failure, SCR Operator, etc.
Today it is in the shop waiting for Cat to send a tech up whenever they can because they are short staffed like everyone else. Because they said if I keep running it, it will shut down in 3 hours.

Yep, I'll just keep my little 26 horsepower tractors and RTV and not have any worries in my home life. They run EVERY time I need them to do something.

I haven't seen a death by tier 4 thread for a while now. Maybe Covid had something to do with that?

Anyway, I'm pushing 300 hours and no issues with a tier 4. Run them at 2200 rpm and keep the heat up in the soot catcher. It's that simple.

Great points on both sides. I like simple, and subscribe to the bigger is better theory. Which seems like a conflict, but, my solution... Buy used, make peace with working on the equipment a little. Get a lot more machine, and a lot more work done. At least when they are running:)

Best,

ed

I have the big part figured out now. I buy antique tractors for the big ones. Cheap to buy and never die.

Convert to 12 volt, and electronic ignition, good for the next 60 years.

P.S. Cat can't make it up until Monday. We are now buried in snow and I was trying to clear the essential areas of the mine with a skid steer. Sure wish I still owned my emission motors, LOL

Which mine do you work at? I used to work at coal mines in the powder river basin.

Just one of the smaller gold mines in Northern Ontario. I won't name names because some of these places are pretty quirky about what you say about them on social media, LOL
It's underground, but I'm the operator on surface.\
I was both a driver and owner operator in trucking for 36 years but I decided to leave that industry because of these new engines, over-regulation and the poor quality of drivers on the road now. Now I only had to buy a coffee travel mug and a lunch pail and they make more per hour than a $240,000 truck, LOL

Don't blame you. I mined coal for 34 years.

Ya, it's pretty sad in trucking now. There is no money in my area. And crashes on the highway and closures daily.
Now when something breaks down, no stress. Sit and get paid.

Yes, I see you are from a big coal area Citydude. They are sure trying to kill that industry off now too.
Everyone has their electric dream now.....they just don't think about the part that not everyone has hydro electric damns like we have up here, so where is this electricity going to come from??
Oh ya, I forgot, windmills are environmentally friendly.....until you see all the used blades that get dumped and buried because there is no other use for them, LOL

Before you spend your money, spend some time in the seat of the LS Mt225s. You (as I was) may be pleasantly surprised.
