Tractor News What is driving up the demand for tractors?

I’m not asking for anything. Just explaining that during Covid many low skilled workers found work with those larger businesses that provide health insurance and other benefits. Amazon and Walmart warehouses don’t require college degrees or much experience and these people aren’t going back to businesses that don’t provide benefits. This requires those small businesses to increase wages to hire employees. It is what it is. The world has changed. I’m not saying this is good or bad, but it’s reality in 2022.
Residing in a state that has the highest per capita rate of citizens on public assistance, I guess you know.

Glad to know the supply chain does not effect you...
You’re talking about something different than trade deficit. Do I think it would be better to source products domestically? Yes. But the discussion was whether importing more than exporting was going to make the country collapse. I don’t think so. And I also don’t think that the US will ever get back to manufacturing cheap consumer products anymore; the market is simply not there for $200 shirts, $500 shoes, or other high priced consumer goods in large quantities. So, the world isn’t going back to 1970. Where are we going? Who knows.

We have the highest number of Indian reservations and population. Those issues aren’t going to be solved anytime soon, but the younger generation is doing better and pursuing higher education in far greater numbers than the older folks.

No I'm not. If we import a lot, we are beholden to the supply chains of the world.

The experiment did not hold up over the long run...

In fact, one of the biggest imported items was microchips. We got exposed on that trade and now companies are scrambling to build chip plants here in the states.

Been to your state more than once and I always find it appaling the mount of direlect cars and junk strewn about on the roadsides and in the most unaccessible places too. I hunt in your state often and more than once, I've been hunting in a remote section and come across a bullet riddled car just sitting there in the middle of nowhere. Always get a kick out of your license plates too....l "The land of Enchantment' Should be the land of welfare and trash.

You seem to spend your day being a jerk. You don’t even say where you’re from. I’ve seen nice areas and junky areas all over this country. What paradise are you from, or do you refuse to say?

Agree. But I’m going to bet that the corporate boards in the US will continue to focus on maximizing immediate shareholder value instead of building a sustainable economy. And I still think that most consumer products will continue to be imported. I try to buy a lot of quality US made goods. I have $125 Pendleton shirts, $400 Filson wool jackets, and $500 Whites boots. All US made, and priced so that most people cannot afford them. And I can only afford a few of these things.

Not at all. Like Hay Dude, I'm from here but exactly where is not disclosed. Could be under a rock for all I know. I do know that rock has snow on it presently.

I will say that thumbing through my latest edition of the Tractor House and Auction Time weekly flyer, the asking prices on tractors is climbing pretty steadily, especially the pre 4 units, used prices are approaching what they listed for new. Interesting. Of course asking price and getting price are 2 different animals.

Was just at Wilbur Ellis this afternoon to pick up a 2.5 gallon jug of 24D(B) and checked the price of 46 granulated Urea and it's over 30 bucks a bag. Was 15 last year. That is a 100% increase. I fear it's going to be a very tough year for farmers. Count myself lucky I have 2 full skids in the barn. I typically us a ton to a ton and a half yearly.

Prior posting last year I had noted shortages in the supply chain. I am actively employed in manufacturing sector. We are facing worst electronic component shortages we have ever experienced. This will not go away in 2022 but may improve in mid 2023. Domestically we hearing suppliers placing infrastructure into USA. To over come shortages over out sourcing. Things will improve but not for 18 months. Right now it’s not a buyers market for anything agricultural. We seen hard times at least the elder generation has before. Typically in this environment you purchase repair parts and get buy. Unfortunately repair parts are also scarce. With the upcoming interest rate hikes in USA it will make more pain for the farmers. We have seen worse times before we just need to support each other as best as possible.
