TBN used to have a couple of places like that, and those conversations and their resulting animosities always spilled over into the interactions in the rest of the forums. That's why it went completely away to another site.
But how was it handled?

This is a playground no different than at an elementary school. Some watch, some play, and some fight.

You don't have to chase down everyone who breaks the rules. Bust the worst and the others will behave.
It won't be perfect, it never is. In the end, you end up with the ones who will attract others not drive them away.

I was offended when a post was closed right after I was asked about my experience with having covid for the second time. I understand that covid is off limits, along with politics and other things that get people worked up, but I didn't feel that I had crossed the line. I'll get over it, and I'll avoid the topic in the future, but it would have been nice to have a warming, or an explanation when the thread was closed.

Overall, the moderators do a VERY GOOD JOB. I think that most of the issues are with a few people that constantly cross the line. They will never realize that they are the problem, which makes it harder for the moderators.

I believe the success of this forum is that it rarely has anything to do with tractors, but tractors are the common denominator for all of us, but it ends up being about life out in the country.

In all reality, the moderators are probably too nice in many cases. People will push as far as they can, and it doesn't matter how far you let them go, they will try to push the issue just a little farther every time.

The rules, whatever they are, should be VERY VISIBLE.

There are what appears to be a set of rules that one agrees to to be able to join this forum and another set of rules that are in a post by Mohammid.

Finding all the “rules” is not easy.

So, more moderators needed?
Maybe some moderators need to go back to good manners school. There have been sometimes when at least one, evidently, created problems in a thread and then locked it or got it locked.

As far as "Who Makes the Rules", it's not so much who makes the rules it's how the rules are interpreted and applied.

If there's an issue with a moderator's decision or attitude, than contacting Muhammad directly would be the better way to go...
We're all human with opinions, prejudices and attitudes.
I've never had a problem with any of the moderators...even when we had the UN"friendly" Politics forum.
I guess I've had posts removed...don't recall any, but after 20some years on TBN, I'm sure I've offended somebody at sometime.
Nobody should take any internet forum too seriously...

Please do not have the moderators tell us to go to TNT. That site is a cesspool and is a good example of failure. The treads here are very informative and it is a big job for the moderators to keep politics out of it. It is not necessary to shut down ALL discussion on a subject and eliminate post that are not political.

LOL.

Cesspool? It has some good topics of discussion. Unfortunate some posters fail miserably in etiquette, posting techniques and general knowledge. Is not that what the ignore buttons are for?

Funny how one can be in a cesspool and TBN at the same time. Me thinks a good psychologist needs to be involved. LOL. Is that really what is under the radar here on TBN? That evil lurks in us all?

I frequent another forum a lot more often than here (though in the beginning, I came here more than there)

Anyway, they created a "BS" forum. It was not a forum that was open to everyone, you had to be invited in. So yeah, you can call it a club or something.

Bottom line, inside that forum, the rules were (are) VERY lax and you can have at it. The thing is, new people don't have access to it so you can't have a new person sign up and cause a racus. You tend to have longer tenured people in there and given their tenure, you have a feel for their temperament and know they're not just trolling.

Food for thought. Maybe you could do that here and see how that works.
IIRC, here at one time, you had to ask to be included in "Friendly Politics".

That then moved to another site altogether.

Having a forum with lax rules and no moderators would be a lot like having a basketball game without referees. Sure refs make mistakes and bad calls that you don't agree with (but the other team sees as right). Without refs basketball game would quickly become more like a boxing match. I'd prefer basketball to stay as what the refs define as basketball.
