Tractor
Kubota L4330 with LA853 Loader, Yanmar YM276D with YFL1000 Loader, Yanmar YM276D, Yanmar YM147D, Case 1845C
A friend inherited his father’s 2310. It ran last fall. It looks like his dad installed a remote start momentary button. It will not start. Battery is good at 12.8 volts. We removed the starter and it bench tests in working order. On the tractor when you turn the key to on, the indicator light glows. If you turn the key to on, nothing happens and the indicator light extinguishes.

If you turn the system to off and back to on, the indicator light glows, but if you push the momentary button then the solenoid clicks once. Then the indicator light goes out and no matter how many times you push the button nothing happens.

Any ideas?

Check your large battery cables and connections, especially where the ground bolts to frame. May need taken loose and cleaning.

Thanks for that. Out of mere coincidence, I told him to order new positive and negative battery cables. It's a starting point. If the starting circuit is as simple as it seems, then it might not be that difficult to rewire the entire circuit and not try to trouble shoot all the existing wiring. The tractor has many places where the man's father apparently tapped into existing wiring. The wires have seen better days.

Put your voltmeter on the battery. Have somebody hit the starter and see what happens to the voltage. It should not drop below, say, eleven volts. You can have a surface charge on a battery but if it has high internal resistance the voltage will drop way off.

I am hoping the battery is in good shape. It was replaced in July 2021, but checking the battery with a multimeter presents an easy task.

Dead on the money. I had him order both the positive and negative battery cables and installed them today in about fifteen minutes. The irony is that with the new battery cables, the YM2310 now starts with the key the traditional way or by turning the key to the "on" position and using the momentary switch. The owner's son wants to keep it set up that way for nostalgic reasons. His tractor.

I am glad to hear it worked out so well.

All the best,

Peter
