Hemp or pot? They grow big fields of hemp not far from where I live. It’s mostly used for CBD oil and doesn’t have the intoxicating properties of pot. Many years ago, there was a large patch of pot growing on our property. It was wild, not cultivated. Very common around here, as they used to grow hemp for the big wars. I called the county police and they told me to spray it. I told them I couldn't spray it because A: spray was too expensive and B: it was right next to a waterway and the spray could contaminate the water. So they came out and pulled it all out themselves. I think that was in the early 90's.
Now that it’s legal in CA do they still have the bootleg growers or is it big business now?Surprising advice. As the trespasser's grows expands, then the property owner should just eventually plan to move away?
If it's a successful "bootleg" pot grow this year, next year it will be bigger. CA has had numerous wildfires started from such growers, not to mention theft of irrigation water and a lot more.
It's a mess, of course. Now that it’s legal in CA do they still have the bootleg growers or is it big business now?
It sounds like the same business model which moonshiners use. It's a mess, of course.
Those growing pot legally in CA have found that the State has subjected their particular industry to high taxes and extensive regulations. Lots of burdens necessary to "stay legal." What a surprise.
The result is those who try to stay legal get stymied, bankrupted, or both. While the illicit market thrives.
You can grow your own vegetables but most people go to the grocery store and pay tax on what farmers grow....even people with gardens buy some veggies off and on during the year from the store.Seems most states that legalize it also allow residents to grow their own. Seems kind of self defeating if they hope to make anything in tax revenue.
There’s not much difference between those folks, except the moonshiners have their own show on the Discovery channel. Not sure though if pot growers wear overalls without shirts. It sounds like the same business model which moonshiners use.![]()
They haven't started taxing food here yet... although I do pay on seeds and vegetable seedlings. Also sometimes on livestock feed, depending on where I buy it.You can grow your own vegetables but most people go to the grocery store and pay tax on what farmers grow....even people with gardens buy some veggies off and on during the year from the store.
