Good morning!!!!

41°F and clear skies this morning, going up to 65° today. Back to darkness when I leave for work in the mornings for awhile again.

Welcome to the GM thread, Helogabals.

I've never had any trouble at that Lowe's location, Ken. They were pretty busy yesterday morning, so I was surprised they didn't have at least one cashier working. After whining about this on Facebook earlier in the day, I found out one of my friends - who was, incidentally, the first singer I ever played with back in 1982 - has retired and is working part-time at a different location, one I had actually considered going to instead. It's about the same distance from us, so I may consider just going there from now on. The area around the Belleville location is starting to get a bit sketchy anyway.

Total rocks in the pile = 20000000 / 3.883 = approx 5.1 million rocks !
My only "criticism" would be that your approximation was rounded down instead of up. 5.1 should be 5.2. Even so, it doesn't change the end calculation.

Your sample size is fine, and it's awesome (re: amusing) that you actually did this. You rock, Eric.

Helogabals, welcome to the Good Morning thread. My ancestors are from an area about 1000km to the SE. Are you close to the Baltic Sea?

Good morning and Pie day! 52˚F in Central Texas heading to the upper 70 with full sun this afternoon. I have not checked the potatoes since yesterday's 22˚ morning hoping they will self heal before I go out there.

I'm going to take the steps to sell Mom's car to Carvana. They will pick it up and are claiming they will buy it for MORE than I'm comfortable selling it for. These used car prices are ridiculous. It's garage kept with 23K miles. Will see how it goes and will back out if they do not keep their end of the deal. I was very honest on the condition. I still need to take pictures and e-mail them next time I'm there.

Pi Day. There has been a movement around here to call it STL Day, as the St. Louis area code is 314. My inner nerd tells me to just stick with Pi Day.

11C/52F in sunny Shropshire. Back inside for another cuppa, a little too windy for an old man like me to be out with a chainsaw.

So this is Pi day ? Hadn't realised, but that is typical for yet another "Good Morning" coincidence. Before reading that, I had just set my little atmospheric sensing project to log todays fluctuations in air pressure - using a "Raspberry Pi Pico" !

Good Morning!!!! 49F @ 7:30AM. Sun and clouds mixed. High 72F. Winds S at 5 to 10 mph.
Rain in the 10-day for tonight into tomorrow morning, then again next Saturday. Not enough to stop the drought, but better than nothing.

Lowes never seems to have what I'm looking for in stock, Paul. HD is much better in that regard, but these days shortages are unfortunately to be expected.

The wind dropped yesterday afternoon and I was able to get the twelve and a half gallons of transmission oil and all three filters changed in the tractor. Tried to check toe in on the front wheels, but need a helper to hold the other end of the measuring tape. Now just need to pick up a new fuel filter next time I'm in town, and the 400 hour service will be complete. Sure glad the transmission oil evaporates, as I spilled quite a bit of it while changing those filters.

Also got a few trees limbed, getting enough wood for a campfire in the process. The wind had almost disappeared by then. Hoping it stays away for a few more hours this morning so I can light the burn pile.

Hope everyone's week gets off to a great start...

I think you need a second survey. Gather 3 samples, exactly same weight, count number of rocks each sample. Compare results to 1st survey.

David, too nice a day for that. I will meet you half way though, as what I sense you are really after is an excuse to take a little break from caretaker home construction.

Here are another 3 samples, in total almost exactly the same weight as before.

Let me know when you have finished the counting

I'm not at all a fan of Home Depot. I like Menard's best, but they didn't have what I wanted, which was precut 24"x48" plywood pieces. I can get all parts out of one piece, and it fits in my car.

I also noted that these plywood pieces that were priced at just under $16 each back in November are now just under $22.

Those are cool, I have a raspberry pie set up as a streaming video server. Haven’t used it in ages, but I got it.

I got a similar shock when I priced tires for the touring motorcycle this morning. The same tire I purchased back in '14 for $114.15 is now $152.25, and it's not even in stock. The closest tire that fits and is available now goes for an incredible $180.03!

64°F and .01 inches rain

Got the bed, futon, table and chairs in the caretaker unit yesterday. Beginning to look homey.

County council person hosting Zoom meeting this morning. I want to ask how the Mayor proposes to pay his 13.1% budget increase and still claim no property tax increase. I know I didn’t see that sort of increase to my income.

Hosting in person Happy Hour this afternoon. Our first face to face gathering since Thanksgiving.

Prayers for all
Be safe
Have a great day

I live across the river from Princeton, used to be 2 miles from my old house.
PI day is big there, but since Alligators showed up it's been kinda quiet.

There was a bicycle ride at night where everyone would wear strange costumes with lots of lights on both people and bikes.
They also have special exhibits and lots of Einstein and other stuff on sale, as giveaways etc.

Whole town would come out to celebrate.

Yes, Pi Day
A few years back a friend , now passed, would host a Pi Day potluck. All sorts of pies.

Today I’m making a Shepard pie for Happy Hour, but with chicken & Turkey as the meat.

Good evening all and Happy Birthday Drew.
More family members with aligatoritus meant a quiet Sunday for us.
It gave me plenty of time to try and answer that question of how much a 20 ton pile of 14mm crushed gravel works out per rock.

First off I took random samples of rock from 3 different places on the pile. Each sample had exactly 100 rocks.
Sample 1 weighed 425 grams
Sample 2 358 grams
Sample 3 382 grams
[Sorry in advance to you QA pros - the kitchen scales have no calibration certificate and no doubt you would want a lot more samples]

Total sample weight 425 + 358 + 382 = 1165 grams
Average weight per rock = 1165 / 300 = 3.883 grams
Weight of pile = 20 tonne = 20,000,000 grams
Total rocks in the pile = 20000000 / 3.883 = approx 5.1 million rocks !
Price per rock = $1379 / 5.1 million = .027 cents per rock, which actually seems pretty good value

Anyone who has trouble getting to sleep at night is very welcome to check calculations and put me straight tomorrow :)
$1379/5,100,000 = .00027
