My point is that you are voting for high truck prices. Thanks.

The chicken tax has been in effect since the 60's. Nobody in 40 years has voted for high truck prices.

Seen a couple really crazy pickup truck ads lately.

Drag race between two EV trucks. Hummer vs Rivian. Now I ask you - when was the last time you purchased a truck because it was the fastest in a drag race.

The other - the GMC ad showcasing their "auto drive" system. Now you too can have a pickup and drive down the road - - slap your thighs/clap your hands and sing some ridiculous song.

I know - it takes all kinds. But COME ON MAN - give it a break.

I agree it's ridiculous, but keep in mind that EV trucks aren't being built/marketed/sold as a work vehicle. Just a plaything for the deep-pocketed "gotta be the first on my block to have one" crowd.

Kind of like a suburbanite owning a CUT or sub CUT diesel tractor to mow their patch of lawn or plow their driveway in the winter. Status symbol 100%. Useful purchase -0%.

I also see no 'efficiency' figures posted for the new engine, just power. Power always comes at the expense of fuel consumption. You cannot make power without it and with the current cost of fuel (and it's increasing daily), far as I'm concerned, efficiency takes precedent over power. I sure as heck don't want to be piloting ANY vehicle that isn't fuel efficient and takes 120 bucks to fill up every time.

Not in the cards for me at this time.

Whew boy….the hypocrisy (above) of beating up on guys that want to spend their money however they please on whatever they want is just amazing.
I dont care if you live on 1 acre and want to own a bulldozer, it doesnt matter. This is America and a person has the liberty and freedom to pursue their interests and dreams,
as long as they arent hurting anyone.

Oaktree - you haven't seen the Rivian commercial yet where they are pulling some big covered trailer cross-country. The idea being - this Rivian IS tough enough to do work for you. Strange - this "heavy pull" commercial never mentions the range the Rivian got.

Probably spent untold hours at various charging stations recharging the battery. Great way to 'see America from charging stations' I'd say. Reminds me of my cousin and his Tesla. Last time he visited it took an additional 2 hours for him to make the trip from New Lennox, Illinois to here. Had to stop and charge his Tesla. Not like going to a filling station and filling the tank in 5 minutes and continuing on. Replenishing the juice takes a lot of time even at a Supercharging station. Why, if I buy an EV (and probably will at some point), I'll plug in at home only and never use it to go any distance that requires charging away. Will only be for trips and errands where I can leave and return on the same charge.

My ONLY comment about this forum and all the other 'free forums' out there is... You are a guest here and when you first logged on, you had to agree to their terms of use (or you could never have logged on in the first place) Also called the AUP or users agreement and you give them the right to moderate and/or remove posts or lock threads that they (forum moderators) see fit with no recourse on your part other than not ever entering the forum again (something I have done in the past btw).

Bottom line is, if you don't agree to abide by the Users Agreement, there are only 2 choices, be removed by the moderators or don't ever visit again.

Hundreds of public forums like this one out there in cyber land to choose from. Not like this is the only game in town because it isn't and then there are the private forums where you pay a users fee to participate so you always have choices, bit even on a PPV forum, you will still have rules to abide by.

Cast your stones elsewhere but be apprised that all forums are still governed by specific rules of engagement. How it plays.

Kind of like having a Rolex and afraid of wearing it. ;)
I have one of them, Rolex Submariner with the blue dial face and while I'm not afraid to wear it, I wear it discriminately. Too dam expensive to bang around with. I have a Timex 40 dollar solar watch for that. If it gets bunged up, I can replace it cheap. if the Rolex get bunged up, replacement or even getting it rebuilt will never be cheap. Simply put, I'd never wear a 10 grand watch to work on one of my tractors or change the oil in the cars. I really wanted a Presidential Day Date but I thought to myself that some perp might cut my wrist off to get it as I do go to Detroit often. The Submariner is less conspicuous.

That would be my concern - 5030. Somebody might cut your hand off - just for the watch - if you were lucky. Most likely - just shoot you dead and remove the watch. Maybe I watch to much - Law and Order. Maybe things aren't really like that in the big cities - ??? I will never know. I will never go to the big cities again.

BTW - there is a Japanese company developing a new battery. Beyond lithium - something-or-other "dry charge". Rapid recharge - greater range.

When this all shakes out - EV might not be so bad. However - I wonder how much upgrading our infrastructure will require to handle an "all EV" lifestyle. How hard will the petrochemical industry fight this.

Are we just changing horses but still going down the same path.

The way I see it, nearly the same amount of coal, NG, oil, etc will be burned.
As the country switches over to primarily Chinese battery powered cars, the charging stations will place vastly increased demand on our existing fossil fuel burning power plants To generate more electricity for all the charging stations

Not sure where the environmental impact changes all that much? Its just a shell game.

If you want to cut pollution, switch the power plants to nuclear and NG, then build a grid, then build the cars. At least when its done, the atmosphere will actually get even cleaner.

One site I visited estimates our power usage will increase about 35% if 75% of the cars on the road become electric. I’ve read up on EV’s a bit, as I have long thought they would make a great second vehicle... ever since reading an article in “Mother Earth News” about converting a normal car to run on batteries. About 20 years ago the University of Maine built a solar S-10; it had a panel covering the entire 7 foot bed. It was interesting if not practical.

I’m not necessarily opposed to them. I just don’t believe that mandating them is right... especially since much of the technology is just voodoo magic, as well as merely a way to transfer our pollution problems; as well as more of our money; to another country.

My auto insurance plan has roadside assistance. So, I can not get to a recharge station with my new EV and the battery poops out. Will the insurance pay for an auto hauler to come out and transport me to a recharge station.

You know - it's going to take a lot more mental involvement to make sure this exact scenario does not happen. Look at all the folks who run out of gas - and that's easy. Will they all be capable of preventing this in their new EV.

There is a car - pulled off on the road side. It's an EV. So - you stop to help. What are you going to give him - a gallon of electricity.

That's of those "things" which will work itself out. I have AAA. If I run out, they will bring me a gallon of gas. I also have free towing up to 100 miles. Perhaps they will indeed tow you. I haven't run out of gas in 40 years. I decided I didn't like it. ;)

For me running out of gas, electricity, or other breakdowns in the wrong place at the wrong time of year could be life threatening; especially as I get older and can't walk as far as I used to. (I once put a piston out through the crankcase on my snowsled so I worked all day, then walked about 5 miles out of the woods. I can't do that anymore.) I asked questions similar to yours in the "Battery based vehicles" thread and got nothing but ridiculed and labeled as a "hater" for my troubles. I finally had to stop reading that thread. I don't mind opposing viewpoints but don't deal well with fanatics.
