I haven't heard of any of those things happening here in East Texas, where I live, but I have heard some crazy things from friends in CA, where I'm from.
Gravel keeps going up because of fuel costs. We don't have any rock here, so it all has to be trucked in from the quarry 100 miles away. I can only haul a yard at a time in my truck, so it makes sense to have them deliver it.
My wife has a PhD in Nursing, and we go to a couple different vets depending on what we need. She talks the language with them, and from what we understand, that's kind of rare. They like to talk about what they are doing, and she enjoys those conversations. A lot of the time, we are never charged for a vet visit. They also sell us their meds in bulk and allow my wife to keep them and use them when she feels it's necessary. A lot of meds are temperature and time sensitive. We've learned that cheaper usually means that the meds where not kept at the right temperature. This is extremely common where meds are sold at Feed Stores. Some shots cost $30 or more, but the entire vial is just $100 and you can get 30 shots from the vial. We've done this for things like Canine Flu shots. They even gave us all of the syringes we needed!!!
