I'm redoing all the plumbing on my tractor and loader. The hoses are old and cracked, and I also want to change up the loader valve and rear remotes.

This is my tractor, late 70's Ford 4100. It has the internal hydraulic pump. Some tractors have an engine mounted pump or earlier Ford's had a pump mounted off the rear of the engine somewhere - in those instances you may have some other options. Not what I have though.

Anyways, I am using the HV5902 adapter plate with power beyond (NOT the HV4902 without power beyond). The reasoning is because the power beyond line will relieve the pressure on the new loader valve. The power beyond port on the adapter plate returns directly into the sump of the tractor. It's not necessary for this to work, but why not. It will be easier on the valve - cheap insurance in my opinion.

For whatever it's worth, I called Bailey Hydraulics (where I got my valve from), and talked with their tech department. They assured me if I wanted to use the HV4902 adapter plate and only use two hoses, that their valves could take the constant pressure that setup would create. Ultimately I talked with a member on here who guided me in the direction of using the HV5902, and I think it's the best way to go.

The adapter plate is aluminum. I stoned both sides to get it relatively flat and take the burs off. It comes with O-rings, a bunch of bolts, some fittings, and instructions. The O-rings stay in the plate good, but if they don't (because that side goes face down on the tractor) just use some vasoline to hold them in place.

My tractor came with this oddball triple spool valve. Which was fine, but the loader didn't have float - and I want that. One of the many reasons I'm doing all this work. It only had 4 bolts holding it in. So no big deal pulling it off. I talked to a few old Ford dealerships near me, and none of them were able to identify this spool valve. Seems to be an aftermarket thing. I've never seen pictures of it online anywhere.

The problem was that now I didn't have a blocking plate for the top of the adapter plate. If your tractor doesn't have any hydraulics - it will simply be bolted in place where my old spool valve was. Other tractors might have some remotes, and there will be a selector valve on top - which will let you divert flow to either your remotes or the three point.

The beauty of this adapter plate is that you can just put the blocking plate (Ford Part# C5NN475B) on top of it. You don't need the selector valve thing and your three point will still work normally as well as whatever you plumb off the adapter plate. But if you want to you, you can use the selector valve on top. Not sure why you would want to though.

So I grabbed the hydraulic blocking plate cover (Ford Part# C5NN475B). It was pretty rough, so same thing. I stoned it to get it as flat as I could and get all the burs off. This part does not come with O-rings, so I'll need to head down to the hardware store and grab some.

I started mocking everything up at this point. I also lightly stoned the top of the tranny, I'm not terribly concerned about getting junk in the tank because I'm going to do fluids and filters after this is all said and done. Here's what the top looks like.

One thing you'll read online is that the bolts that come with the adapter plate are not the correct length. Can verify - they're not. Notes about this: the two farthest away bolt holes have threads immediately starting in the hole. The two bolts closest start threads way down in the hole past the hydraulic lid. All the bolts in the kit work - except those two that are deep down. They're just 1/4" too long...

Here is everything mocked up in place. And you can see how the provided bolts are too long. I think I'm going to just grind these down. There is at least 3/4" of thread engagement, so taking out a 1/4" isn't going to hurt anything.

This is where I'm leaving it for the night. Going to grab the O-rings I need soon. New valve comes tomorrow, and I'll need to start mocking up a mount for it. And also have to start thinking about how to route all the new hydraulic lines. I don't think I'll be using the 90 degree fittings that came with the plate. Maybe one I'll use, but I really want to keep the hoses routed nicely and out of the way.

Oh and I also have to figure out what the thread size is in the top of the blocking plate - not sure what it is for, but I know I gotta plug it. Hopefully it's just NPT threads, but I didn't really look at it yet.

Been really busy getting everything ready for Spring. But here's an update on stuff.

I did grind the bolts down, and they fit fine. That wasn't a big deal.

The open port in top of the blocking plate is 1/4" NPT. I had a brass plug that I put in for now, but I do have a black plug I might use instead.

The issue I'm having is finding the correct size O-rings for the blocking plate. All but two of them are just basic off the shelf stuff. I think they're metric, no clue why. Everything I tried is either too big or too small. Going to an industrial supply house tomorrow, and hoping they have what I need.

Next thing I started working on was a mount for the new loader valve. The loader on my tractor has some 3/4 NPT bungs on it. I grabbed some bushings for it, drilled them out, tapped them 1/2x13 and it worked out really great.

I made up a mount with some 1/4" diamond plate, and I think it turned out really good. Bolted up really strong. Very easy to just grab, I don't have to bend or stretch at all to reach the valves.

There's a tiny bit of flex in the plate, and I'm thinking I may go ahead and add a tab on the back. There was a random nut welded on there, perfect location to brace the back.

So I'm really in the home stretch now. Just need the right O-rings, and I can start working out my hydraulic lines.

Well I got everything back together. But uh, my three point hitch won't lift. Went down like normal. I think my pump lost prime? I'm not really sure. Anybody have any ideas?

So if I understood your post correctly you used a adapter plate with Power Beyond. What I think you did was plumbed power beyond from the plate to the IN on the loader valve. Then you went from the C port back to power beyond on the adapter plate. Is this correct?

What I think should be done is go from the pressure port of the adapter plate to the power in on the loader valve. Then the loader valve needs a power beyond sleeve installed on the C port. Then you would have a hose from the C port of the loader valve back to the power beyond on the adapter plate.

Then you would have a 3rd hose go from the T port on the loader valve back to return port on the adapter plate.

The Power Beyond is what will go back to operate the 3pt. Hopefully I explained that well enough for you to understand.

That is how I have it:
Pressure port on plate (P) to inlet on valve (P).
Return to sump on plate (T) to outlet on valve (T).
Power beyond on plate (PB) to power beyond on valve (C).

The valve I'm using is this:

When I put the power beyond line on the valve, I just used a regular 3/4-16 ORB x 3/8 JIC male adapter... I'm guessing the special power beyond plug does something special with oil flow to direct it back to the plate.

Correct. so what is missing is the power beyond sleeve. The sleeve is what redirects the flow internally in the valve. Without the sleeve then C is just another tank port.

You need to reach out to Bailey’s and ask them for the power beyond sleeve and plug if needed. They will be able to help. But that will fix the issue.

Thanks for the help friend, hopefully my tomatoes can make it another week until I get the sleeve.

I hope so as well. Let us know when you get it going or if you need help. By the way, very nice install.
