Hey I'm currently building a pole barn 16' x 32' with 2 16' openings to be able to drive through the building to get to other parts of the property. Poles are 6x6 9' walls. I'm wondering what would be strong enough to support the roof In this scenario

How are you supporting the roof where there are no openings? If you've got a clear sixteen foot span the length of the building the same support should work at the ends. The weight is supported by the walls not the center.

Lvl beams across the 16' spans.

If you're desired 16' opening(s) is in the 16' dimension you really shouldn't. You'd have no "racking" in those 2 wall's and it could actually blow over with heavy winds on either of the 32' walls. With 9' wall's you'll be limited to a van or pickup fitting through. A 12' opening would leave you 2' to build a shear wall on each side. If you're prone to heavy winds, 10' would be better.

Seems like it would be much better to have 10'+ height if your planning on driving through it for other access to your property.

Start with the snow load for your area and work out the requirements for a header beam.

If you buy manufactured trusses they will be engineered to span 16 foot. If you are stick framing then use 2x12 with osb in the middle sandwiched together with glue, nails or screws.

I'm thinking the 16' opening is on the sides.

Where did you get your plans, or are you just winging this?

There are quite a few sets of pole barn plans online which are free. Talk to your extension agent, they can line you out. Most colleges with Ag Engineering programs have plan libraries for just about anything you might need to build on a farm. From chicken coops, to 5000-sf equipment sheds, and four bedroom houses.

Teams of Senior level engineering students design them as Senior Design projects. North Dakota State, Ohio, Illinois, and a bunch of others have well engineered plans you can download for free.

If you ar using 16 foot trusses, then yes, you don’t need a wall under the gable end of a pole barn. If you’re trying to put 16 feet between trusses or between poles, then no, that’s too far.
