Back in 2016 I asked for advice here
I'm back!
Replaced pump w/ a cheapy, that died about 2020.
I was stuck in Mississippi due to C-19 and our son bought a Zoeller 1073 from Lowes, it had a 2 year warranty which just about expired.
Now I want to replace that with something with a longer warranty.

Zoeller makes similar, the M63, w/ a 5yr warranty.

From the web:
Until three years ago there were around 30 sump pumps that had a lifetime warranty. Today however, there are no submersible sump pumps with a lifetime warranty. The maximum warranty period offered by any sump pump manufacturer is five years which is provided by Zoeller, Flotec and Red Lion.
So out of those 3 (or any other with as good or better warranty) what would the TBN brain trust recommend for a 1/3HP sump pump?
Any experience with getting warranty replacements?

Try Wayne. Wonderful pumps and I've never had one go bad. Most warranty out two years but the higher HP stainless ones are 5 years. USA made.

Not at all. That's the 3% category. I'm in the 83% bracket.

I buy the 3/4 HP and 1 HP pumps and have had excellent results. I'm willing to look at something else but the ones I did were made in China and I don't want that for quality control reasons. I'm also suspicious of internet ratings, especially those that are negative and mention an alternative brand. The chosen review shown is a 1/3 HP pump and he says he paid $250 for it. I think they cost $70

Wayne has worked for me and no probs. I buy a higher power pump and change every few years. Anything submerged in water 24/7 can have issues and I don't want any.

Interesting. I won't use a submersible sump pump. I use the 'pedestal' sump pump with the motor out of the water and out of harms way. My last one I bought 15 years ago at Menards for 60 bucks and it's still running just fine. Bought another backup the other day, just in case, same brand, same style. It's a Barracuda (Menards), I presume Chineseum build, like most everything is today.

I just replaced mine for the second time in 20 years, first one ( the original ) was a Myers that lasted 14 years, second one was a flo-tech that lasted 6 years, the one I bought the other day was a Pentair owned by Myers, it supposedly has a 2 year warranty, I have mine setting up on a block in the bottom of the septic tank just in case any solids make there way into the liquids tank. Float switches are supposed to be a huge problem with them but both times I had to dig mine up it has been the pump, I don't see how any of them last in the environment that they spend their life span in.

I installed a pedestal style sump pump in our church basement in 85 and its still going.
Ive had numerous submersible pumps die over the years that I used occasionally for odd jobs.

A pedestal pump sounds great but I've had the impression they aren't as desirable as the submersible. Not sure why. That, plus there are only a couple models of pedestal pumps available. Can someone fill in the advantages and disadvantages to them?

Advantage... Motor is out of the water so no seal issues (motor gets wet, motor dies)
Impeller assembly is smaller, easier to attach the exit plumbing to.
Less expensive to buy

Disadvantage....
If the space overhead is limited, may not fit
Most have a plastic bottom assembly, not cast, could be an advantage or disadvantage depending on the amount of crud it has to pump out.
Float switch sometimes fail but are easy to remove and replace

In my case I want a thermoplastic lower assembly as I dump the acidic condensate from the condensing furnace into the sump as well.

I believe that the advantage of a pedestal pump is you get the motor, switch, and electricity above the waterline. In them olden days, seals weren't very good and submersible pumps often leaked and often failed as a result. Industrial pumps are almost exclusively pedestal types, because they can be readily serviced.

It is my perception that submersible pump designs have improved, and seal leakage isn't the problem it once was, but at the end of the day a submersible pump has its windings underwater. On the other hand, as an anecdotal example, our well pump lasted more than 35 years like that, under 100' of water, so it can be done. (It wasn't replaced for seal performance, just a barely leaking check valve. Go figure.)

I would comment that there is a difference in loads and function for a submersed macerator sewage pump, a constantly used sump pump, and an intermittently used sump pump. The sump pumps are only exposed to basically clean water, while the sewage pump is not only dealing with solids, but pretty active corrosion chemistry.

All the best,

Peter
