Good shot hunt, You will get plenty of firewood out of that. I like your idea of taking a board or two also and trade in the hockey stick.

That oak would be nice. I'd have new counter tops...lol. my island countertop is made out of maple from our property.
So here are my countertops and island on my kitchen I finished last year, all oak that I cut off my property and milled about 3-4 years ago for just that reason.

Thanks, and let me tell you I let out a huge WHOOP when I hit that slot! :p

And I'm leaning to doing that.. slicing out a couple slabs, I'm just hoping my tractor can pick up a 10 foot section of that trunk! We'll see..

Nice job!!!!
It's one thing to cut the trees, and I hope that I can become a halfway decent sawyer; yet it takes talent and patience to produce something like this.

I have neither of those. Years ago I commented on the job somebody was doing in the kitchen at the place I was working. He said "It's all about having the right tools." That may help, but you still need to be able to use them. As hard as I try, I still redefine the term "rough carpentry."

Well, if the average diameter over the 10' length is 20" then it will weigh about 1400 lbs. That's for red or white oak. Should give you an idea.

The right tools can and will make your job easier/better that's for sure!! I still yearn for a 36" drum sander, I could not afford one way back when, and now when I do have a little more money... the price still eludes me!

I'm not showing my wife those pics, I'll be busy for years.

Beautiful though.

Doing our island was my first countertop. Learned alot and learned what I'll do different next time
This was also my first countertop from real wood and I learned a lot as well!

And thanks.
