We had a cultural pot luck at work last fall. It was pretty fun. Bring something from your family's culture to share with the department. I'd bet 60 people brought something. My mom's German potato salad won!

Saw yellow jello in a bedpan at a potluck. It got lots of laughs, but no takers.
It would be interesting to see how your mother's German potato salad compares to my grandmother's German potato salad. I prefer potluck to any other meal. Everyone brings their best, although everyone doesn't have the same taste buds. I love taking a taste of every dish.
My specialty is a $30 baked beans dish. Have make it the day before. Never, ever bring any home. But now it is expected of me, which is fine.
I also make some killer deviled eggs.

Got my first taste of hot german potato salad in Allentown PA in the early 80s. My cholesterol hasnt been the same since.

Grandma's didn't have bacon, but I've started adding it to mine. It always seemed to be missing something, bacon really complements the flavor.
