I do not use debt (unless a few times by mistake) always make sure to use credit. Safer.

If I was using a debit card, I would keep a minimum of cash in that account, and transfer cash in as needed. A debit card in the wrong hands can be a disaster.
It may be a matter of different financial systems between the US and Aus but most here use a combined "EFTPOS" Debit/Credit card. You simply insert your card, select between Savings, Credit or Chequing and then enter your PIN. Your can choose to 'tap' the card, but only for Credit. Regarding a 'tap' Credit payment, if the amount is over a certain amount then you still have to enter your PIN.
EFTPOS is an acronym for Electronic Funds Transfer at Point Of Sale.
The card can also be used in an ATM.

I freely alternate between using the Credit or my Savings option, depending on what I'm purchasing.

My bank covers any losses at 100%, so it’s as safe as any.

i'm now feeling really Old School

- I have a FLIP Phone (preference) that is on a Pay As You Go "plan" - no internet, no data, no texting. I pay $100 + $12 = $112 for the year ... of my 400 minutes last that long. So far, I have more than half of that still available after 9 months. I shove it in my pocket, keeping my hands free. Basically I use it to see if we need milk ? to check what Timmies we are meeting at for coffee, and occasionally it rings and I answer.
- my home office uses a desktop computer, and a residential phone line

I do taxes / bookkeeping from my home office, and I dislike the option of cheque deposits by cell phone. The cheques to not look "cancelled" so it messes with my calculations when doing someone's "books". Several times I have called a client to say ... do you realize that you have a $3500 cheque sitting here that will expire in 3 weeks (ie: after 6 months)? - oh ya, I deposited that ... uggh

I rarely carry cash - when I sell eggs, I keep the cash so that when I get to the gas station, I can stay in the car and let the attendant do the fill (less stress on my knee, getting in /out of vehicle.
my s, so like many others ... I seldom ever walk into the building.

I do not use a credit card ... I do pay wife's credit card down regularly

I drive a '93 Silverado, a '90 Tracker, and my classic / collector cars ('79 El Camino, '64 El Camino project) ... my wife has the nice ride, a 2016 Nissan Murano Platinum SUV

My '64 El Camino has a radio, and an 8-track car stereo

I still listen to CDs and have vinyl albums ... nothing for the cell phone though

Pretty Boring, I know. :)

BUT, I have a fairly new Kubota :) That makes the old stuff worth keeping.

Lifestyle is for the person living it.

exactly, that's my experience also.
one of my debit cards is actually identified as "debit / visa"
debit is just as safe for me as credit, and I don't want a credit card for use (I have a credit card for banking status, just to keep one alive)

Beautiful day today. Managed to get all the mowing finished at last. Lawns are looking great.
Also got my Tiger finished and the engine running. Last part of video is demonstrating how easy the engine is to start.

We lost this father of three and fine police officer to a piece of white trashed that was walking the street because a Baltimore judge gave him probation before judgement on an armed robbery conviction. Armed robbery, not shoplifting.
We had the governor here last night calling out these liberal, no punishment DA’s and judges, it’s time that crap ended!

this is excellent advice. Most banks/cc companies provide buyer protection; part of what we all pay for in the fees the cc co charges. But debit cards are not always backed up and can be a straight shot to your cash supply. I almost never use my debit card except to deposit checks. Always use cc card, get 1 percent back, and keep it paid off every month.
next time I'm in the bank going to ask about what protection they provide on debit account, since I keep a fair amount in a checking account/linked to savings.

cloudy cooler morning going up to 80 today. Thankful it's not as hot as many of you right now, except for our Southern hemisphere folks.
I'm off early to borrow a gas weedeater from one friend to go weedeat a garden for another. That job will leave me splattered in green from head to toe...
Then home to mow lawn.

tonight meeting another friend, going to Vietnamese restaurant for dinner, then a lecture at historical society in Doylestown about the history of all the covered wooden
bridges in this area.

73 outside this AM. Heading to lower 80's today.

Another fine day to be outside with the grass. Actually I might pour some concrete to start finishing up the doors on the milk house. Need to close them up, also need to get my tools out of there. LOL. So much to do and so many things inter-dependent on one another.

Mostly - I have returned to work full-time. And with the global downturn in the markets it looks to have been a smart move on my part. My boss has also expanded his staff so the work load and conditions are very favorable now for me.

Hope all have a great day. Be safe. Well wishes for those in need.

not a fun trip to dentist late yesterday, felt like a molar filling had fallen out.
And I heard what you never want to hear from your dentist:
That's a big one!
Groan. Between my tinnitus and sore neck, dentist time is just pure torture for me.

Today was not the best of mornings and seems to trending rather than the exception…

I open the medical center at 3:30 am and the general rif-raf, crime etc. has never been this bad over my 31+ years.

This morning after clearing doorways get a call from one of our longtime nurses asking for escort in… a guy at 5:50 am is approaching her with his pants down masterbating in his own version of la la land with a malt liquor in the other hand.

Twenty minutes later a Street person walks in with a blade attempting to steal anything she can get her hands on… the altercation left my knee and wrist banged up as she fled with $10 worth of supplies but I was able to protect patient information.

Unless in progress you are very much on your own as far as 911.

Maybe this is why people retire?
Or move to Texas and Utah. Sorry you have such crime there.

75 and had sprinkles while taking the bird feeders and chipmunk feeders out. But the humidity had more of a soaking effect. Only getting to 88 later, maybe storms.

Great joke, Buppies.

Mowed for 4 hours yesterday...never got too sweaty until I stopped and used the air compressor to completely clean the Zero, when I was drenched. What a difference a little 8 to 10mph breeze makes zooming along on the mower.

Good morning! 78˚F cloudy, maybe a <100˚day. The high pressure dome that has been superheating us is moving to the NE.
Lots of options today with mowing and trail development. I think I'll stick to my yard at least I can wear shorts.

I followed Kyles lead and ordered an extra capacitor and contacts for the A/C. The AC repair companies are very busy. Turned off the AC to take off the cover and verify the capacitor and the house temp goes up 1˚ every 5 minutes.

Is it not nationwide is the question I have been asking myself of late?

This area was Golden for many decades with a solid police department and modest homes immaculately kept…

If I were to generalize what happened is the thin Blue Line does not exist anyone.

Without public support you really don’t have policing.

Afraid to say many I know are just counting the days to get out of Dodge and the sentiment reflects many departments.

So far today is a good day… all quiet the last three hours.

Morning all, weather people keep changing rain amounts for today, the great mystery :)

Got around the pool and trench trimmed out, but 80 and super humid wore me out.
Boy was i covered in green.

Got bug balls slimed with sticky stuff, works real well for horse flies, they were trying to get the ball while I was working on it.

Ultrarunner - sorry to hear things have gotten so bad there, sad.

Drew - tooth sounds like a pain, in pain. Hope it feels better soon

Stay safe and be well,

Good Morning!!!! 65F @ 4:45AM. Sunny. High 92F. Winds NW at 10 to 15 mph.

With inflation blowing up in our faces, how long will it be before cash isn't worth the paper it's printed on? Seems like with inflation, cash isn't the safe haven it has been in the past when the stock market was going through a correction. No safe place to hide anymore...

And with all the hacking going on, I really have to wonder how safe digital funds really are. Real end-of-the-world gloom and doom thinking right there, eh?

If you use a computer to do your own taxes, the gummint wants your bank account and routing number to move money directly into or out of your account. How safe is that? Paper checks have been forged forever; have scammers figured out how to do it with e-funds yet? And Drew's right about debit cards: They don't have the same protections in place as credit cards. The only place I use the debit card is at the local Winco grocery store because they don't accept a credit card and I don't like to carry that much cash.

Wow, scaredy, that's old school for sure. But last time I sold a car, the buyer and I went to his bank, and they wouldn't pay me in cash. Then my bank wanted to charge me a fee to cash the check from his bank! Talk about highway robbery.

Ultra, I left the SF Bay Area shortly after they started shooting people at random on the freeways there. It's been years since I've been back, and I'll try to keep it that way. Your workplace sentiment sounds an awful lot like what I experienced at the General Electric Nuclear Energy Business Group my first year out of college. Three Mile Island had just exploded, and people were leaving like rats jumping off a sinking ship. If things don't change soon, people will start leaving their public safety jobs, and then the criminals will have free rein. Oh, but wait, that's already started. Our local sherrif's department is still well funded, but they can't find enough people to fill all the vacancies.

Sounds like your FIL has accumulated quite a legacy, Randy. It must be a heck of an adjustment to let go of it all.

Glad to hear your good news on the job front, Mike. And Kyle's, too.

Got some seat time moving most of the trees the dozer man knocked down on his last day. Still have two more to go, but they're on real steep ground in deep, very dry grass, away from everything, and there's no hurry getting to them. They can wait until winter when we hopefully get some rain.

Wildfire wise, it seems we get several new starts a day nearby now. Last night another one was only a dozen miles away. Oddly, a neighbor texted me about it before the new Watch Duty app sent an alert, but he only beat it by a minute or two. Firefighters were able to hold it to a few acres, but it was say too close for comfort.

UPS says they'll deliver the hoses that should have come with the new side shift flail mower today. Only took the better part of a month for Betstco to ship them, and now I'm done mowing for the season.

This morning I'll see if I can burn a couple holes in the piece of railroad track that's been in the back of the Ford for a couple of weeks. Then get it mounted on the box blade for ballast. Got a lot of gravel to spread, and it'll help keep the back wheels on the ground.
