Canned anchovies are variable. I like the Kroger brand. Canned anchovy is a condiment. Like any condiment, you don't put it on every food. It's like someone not liking ketchup because it didn't taste good on their broccoli. A spicy pizza deserves a salty little anchovy, but the fish has to mate with strong flavors or it will dominate. More 'n you eever wanted to know about anchovies, huh?

Any of you ever buy a frozen pizza from Aldi's then dress it up a bit at home with more toppings and cheeses. It's not bad in a pinch and pretty reasonably priced.
Safeway has a fresh pizza with a really good crust. I add a few ingredients at home, so buy the cheese pizza and go from there. The deli section of our local market sells end cuts half off, so I diced the butt end of a prosciutto onto it, added some sliced olives mushrooms, and anchovy fillets in a star pattern. When it came out of the oven I topped it with shredded romano/asiago/parmesan. Enjoyed with a good premium beer.

I remember being about 10 or 11, the local pizza place would have "all you could eat for $3 on Tuesdays". Well a few friends and I decided it was well worth riding our bikes there after school.

A couple of us decided to see who could eat more (see where this is going?). It was down to my friend and me.... both at a full large 18" under our belts.

I think I made it to another 2 or 3 slices. I had to call my mom to come pick us up. We couldn't take a step without almost heaving.....

I never did something like that again (except for alcohol in college).....(I still can't even look at a can of Genesee Cream Ale without getting nauseated)

Whenever I see the clips of those hotdog eating contests..... well lets just say it brings back bad memories

In the '60s we occasionally would have pizzas as a treat from a local sandwich shop... most likely in May when the greenhouse was going full bore and my father was there from 6:30 AM to 8:00 PM or later.
Every Sunday night though, my mother would make pizza from kit, the dough was in a can like the Pillsbury dough boy, and a small can of sauce.
It was rectangular and fit on a cookie sheet, she'd put mushrooms, green peppers, and a few other items on it.

I make a deep dish pizza which doesn't require rolling and fits in a 9x12 cake pan. With tomato sauce, cheese, and a few toppings it makes a great meal, and there's enough for several lunches the following week.

Hawaiian is good. To me it's the sauce which makes a good pizza, along with a decent crust. Those two can make almost anything taste good. Except pepperoni... I bought too many lunches from warmers and that's all some people seem to put out. There used to be a shop called "Ryan's Pizza" down in Bar Harbor on the coast run by a capitalist Dead Head, and he knew how to make good food. One of my favorites was hamburg and spinach on whole wheat crust. It's been decades since I've been down there though, I don't believe that he is there anymore.

I didn't read this at first because I'm not over 70... my apologies for not following the rules. ;)

Just remember though, when you place your order don't forget to say, "No Anchovies, Please!"
No problem with being under 70. I just thought younger people would have had pizza since before they could remember.

I've gotten nauseated a on couple of foods and not been able to eat.them again for many years. One was from over eating and the other probably, from eating too fast. It must be nature's way of teaching us a lesson.

I recall my first Pizza being a delivery in Europe. We frequented the place for over 20 years. I recall not long ago, visiting the establishment again for a pizza WITH anchovies.

The place has a five star rating, is STILL in business, and my taste buds are as young as ever. OMG, when youthful memories remain and the body cooperates. Yeah, the pizza was THAT good.

I have come to make my own these days. From scratch. Still looking for that perfect sauce mix. SO tells me the crust is perfection. I don't put anchovies on it though....LOL.

I happen to like Anchovies on my pizza pie. I must be a distinct minority.
I merely made that comment as an intro to the J Geils tale. You have to be of a certain vintage to appreciate it. :D

I’ve gotten food poisoning a couple of times from eating at the wrong places. I’m not sure what nature was trying to tell me.

My guess is that nature was trying to tell you not to eat in those places. :)

35 years later, I still can’t stand the smell of Teriarki.

Contrast that to a former coworker, who moonlighted as a DJ at a local bar/restaurant. He was out sick with a bad case of food poisoning. After several days he called in to say that he’d be in the next day… only to call in sick again. When he finally showed up he told us what happened; the cook had given him some potato salad which was getting old. After laying in bed without eating he was hungry; the only thing in the house was the tub of potato salad. So he ate it, not considering that was what caused him to get sick in the first place.

That’s why it’s better to eat pizza!
