Tractor Gaga’s 430 hours on it.

All of a sudden it doesn’t want to send power to the starter unless you jump up and down on the brake pedal or reach in behind the steering column and wiggle wire harness.

Fuel pump and everything else turns on with the switch…just won’t spin the starter without wiggling the ire harness. (I could not see any wear marks.)

I bypassed the brake switch but that made no difference so retuned the wires to stock configuration.

Any chance one of ya know how to track down a broken wire or possibly a ground that hooks up when I shake things a bit?

Or is there another switch on the brake pedals I’m not seeing?

Or just go get another tractor :). They make new ones all the time!!!

Check the seat safety switch. The brakes won't affect the start but the seat switch does, so jumping on the brakes could move the seat enough that would make it work right.

Seat has a safety switch?? I generally start the tractor and warm up the tractor out of gear, brakes on, but I’m not in the seat…

I would imagine it has one but I could be wrong. At least almost every tractor has one these days.

T474 doesn't have a seat safety switch, ONLY on the brakes and if PTO is activated. Make sure harness isn't routed behind instrument panel in such a way that it is chafing any mechanisms.

Cool. Thanks. Are there any grounds under the dash?

I could not see any but I’m not 60 anymore either!

I've never had a reason to take the dash apart yet, so I do not know for sure. But I know some T574 users had the park brake lock mechanism rub the wire harness causing some issues.

Perfect! I wiggled the wire harness behind the parking brake lever and the problem went away!

I’ll take the dash off when I do the 500 hour service and repair it then. Assuming that is the problem…hard to see in there with the dash on….
