A little bit of excitement this afternoon as a 200 acre brush fire was burning about 5 miles away. It is reported 10% contained this evening. The wind is blowing it away from us.

That speck in the smoke is a helicopter. In the foreground you can see the difference between irrigated and non irrigated grass.

Good Evening,
took the 1979 El Camino to church this morning, then had to jump start my friend's 1965 Valiant after the service. THAT was a photo opportunity that I think everybody missed :)
Sermon Series is starting on Philippians, and I get the impression that I need to read that book 4-5x to try and understand my current circumstances.
Morning was nice (t-shirts, shorts), but it rained hard as soon as the service was ending
tried to assist tenant in getting into her car - she ultimately pried the rear hatch window, and unfortunately the window exploded into pebbles (all cleaned up with the shop vac. I know people in the auto window replacement business, so I'll connect them to her.
Plumbing issue with the clogged drain upstairs remain - might need a battery powered drain auger instead of the snake. I hope that they haven't made things worse.
I finally managed to do a dump run, in spite of the rain. The burning ban is on, so I had to bring the paper garbage along this time.
Yesterday, I had a good visit with my daughter, son in law, and 4 month old grandson - that was awesome. Did some cloud gazing, and flight path observations. They will spend this week at an affiliated Bible Summer Camp - son in law has a series of messages to give :) Too far away for me to sneak in a listen.
Truck tires and rims should be ready, later in the week. - yay
Zero Turn is getting closer to delivery- yay
I'm out to feed the chickens, rabbits, dog
Have a good night
Prayers continue

Kind of a productive day..... I went into town and accomplished the mulch pick up. I was really surprised when I asked a young guy out in the nursery section if he could bring out 30 bags of mulch with the forklift. He actually said "sure, no problem, we'll get it out to the loading area". I think I stood there for a moment dumb founded!

So... a little background info----- I have a 2" bar that goes side to side across the trailer at the top of the side-rails. It bolts on. I put it BACK onto the trailer before I left, thinking that it would help contain all the bags.... now back to the story -----

When I pulled into the loading area, there they were... waiting with the forklift, the 30 bags all neatly stacked on a pallet, and TOTALLY SHRINK WRAPPED !
I was astounded!

Unfortunately, I didn't bring a wrench to unbolt the bar that I so thought would be needed..... and they didn't have any tools on the forklift....
Awww, nutz! We cut the shrinkwrap and hand loaded all the bags. That will teach me! Can you guess what is getting put in the truck tomorrow?

Got home and unloaded each and every bag over the fence.... this is where they landed and will spend the night.....

0418D623-8937-489E-B2C0-59E0570DC272.jpeg3939F007-864D-4240-8733-4B0C36DEC2A2.jpeg
I'm glad there were only 8 bags of the soil... they were much heavier.
I should be able to finish up the project now.

Then off to the now local Harbor Freight for the pressure washer. Low and behold.... none on the shelf. Found one of the associates and asked where they were, being the website showed 10 in stock. Easy.... way up high on a shelf in the back of the store. She immediately went and got a small stepladder and got one down.

Score number 2 for the day... another helpful employee.... will wonders never cease!

Then, off to TSC to pick up bird seed (didn't feel like going into Walmart). I almost fell over when I saw the price! $17.99 !!! WHAT? I know Walmart is around $9 for a 35lb bag, and I just saw bags at HD for $10.....
I asked the girl there if that was in fact the price and she confirmed it. She then said to tell the cashier to price match it to Walmart.... $9.... OK.
Sure enough, told the cashier and the price was $9. Cool. Score number 3.

Now I'm getting paranoid.... why are these employees at 3 different stores actually being helpful? Do I look that mean that I would hurt them if they didn't? Am I looking so old and decrepit that they were feeling sorry?..... I don't know.... it was just scary.....

Everyone have a great evening!

LS - it's all part of your charm

BEF - nice cub cadet

when i was travelling to the dump today (a 5 min drive) I saw a moose calf that was standing in the centre of the road. I think it was probably only 6-7 ft tall - about the height of my pickup, so not very big yet. I only saw this one moose. i came around a corner and it was about 50 meters away, and it just stayed there. i pulled over to the side of the road, to wait, and grabbed my cell phone to take a quick photo. Then two cars came travelling the other way - oblivious to the moose which was now entering the field. The moose disappeared into the hayfield and the bush before I could get a photo. In this area, I typically see bears (a den is on the property), coyotes, racoons, birds of prey, but rarely moose. A highlight of the day. :)

🧨🇺🇸 Happy 4th of July!

Good morning! 77˚F heading to the low 100s and repeat for the next 2 months unless we get a tropical disturbance.

I think Whipper would like an early morning hike on the new neighborhood trail. It officially opens on the 6th but it's ready today. It does cross the creek twice and the bridges are not ready but the creek is dry. I only worked one day on it because of the heat but the rest of the team decided it was important enough to struggle through the brutal heat while I went to Mexico to cool off. Can't decide if I feel guilty or smart. We will finish off the watermelon when we return and then this evening tell Whipper it's OK, it's not the Russians, just illegal fireworks.

Good morning all and happy July 4th.
88 and sunshine today, just perfect

spent a relaxing several hours floating in friend's pool yesterday afternoon and it felt marvelous in the heat.
my high school friend walks very slowly with a cane, his leg gives out on him, and has to use a powerchair when he goes out.
His wife asked me to look out after him while she is away. We'll find some place to do lunch together, go to Costco nearby and buy stuff I likely
don't need. Do I want a 10 year supply of motor oil?...

my next older brother just sold his 600hp M5 and in true fashion got something totally different for his fun car. A 1975 Triumph TR6 with I believe about
150hp from an ancient straight six. I think it's dark green with the saddle leather interior, looked nice, couldn't drive it since his registration wasn't in.
And since my friend last night owned the same car in high school, maybe I can go pick him up with the top down and we can have some fun. Getting out of the car will be a challenge
for us. We really can't get out anywhere because there sure isn't room for a power chair in a TR6.

c'mon Toppop, say good morning. We all send you best wishes. He's had some pretty significant medical challenges, I worry for him.

headed out to put out a few little American flags out front. I've always done that for July 4th.

prayers for our Country on her birthday.

Good morning and happy 4th

55° now highs around 80 and mostly sunny with low humidity today. Kind of a repeat of yesterday.

Went for a nice drive yesterday, stopped at a local farm stand and picked up some squash, lettuce and peas. No veggie garden at home this year, can’t be bothered with all the critters and my lack of enthusiasm! Fortunately there are many farm stands and farmers markets close by, I don’t mind supporting the locals.

The Mrs went to pick up sandwiches for supper and came home with a couple of lobster rolls and fried shrimp. She also got some bison tips for the grill tonight, love that gal!

Planning on a quiet day today, fireworks tonight neighbors put up a pretty nice display every year.

Thanks from the Mrs and I for the anniversary well wishes.

Enjoy your day everyone
Stay safe and healthy

Prayers for those in need, our country and peace around the world

Happy Independence Day USA

SC, we are in Galatians right now.

LS, you must be living right, or maybe it is the intimidating looks.

61° out, feel like I should get outside and do something, but that would involve me getting out of bed first.

They got FEL off of dad’s tractor (it’s really my tractor at dad’s) Dealer was already closed when they called Saturday.

Hope Toppop is OK.

Beautiful morning to sit on front porch and listen to the birds. Fed the neighbors cat, so it’s happy.
Thinking about putting another piece of siding on the shed, maybe cut some of the top pieces. Maybe. Birds are entertaining. Mockingbird going thru it’s calls.

Good Morning
It’s 69 and going into the low 80’s. Another clear day with low humidity. A perfect day for a picnic or lounging in or by the pool.

Of course, that’s not what I did yesterday. Youngest son came to help with fence work, we ripped out old wire and T posts, and put in 6” wood posts. Replaced a batch of broken wood posts and hung a couple of gates. Stretched and stapled wire fabric. Pretty much wore me out. I didn’t drink enough water, and had to take a break and sit down in the air conditioned cab and down a few bottles to get back to feeling normal. Didn’t get it all done, we’ll make another play date to continue the progress. But I was very pleased with the hydraulic auger on the loader. We swapped out the auger for forks to move posts and rolls of fence fabric as well as pulling out T posts. A good day of tractor time.

Pork was ready about 1:30 have gone in the smoker at 7:00 Saturday evening, so we took a break to unload and shred it. And of course eat some for lunch. Got about a quart of liquid gold renderings as well.

Saw a fawn cooling off at the pond on my way down to oldest son’s for some ice for the cooler. Even worse getting dehydrated when there was a cooler full of ice cold liquids in the back of the CarryAll.

Not too much planned for today. Clean up the smoker and put tools away from yesterdays chores. Other than that, likely hang out by the pool with the kids.

Happy 4th of July. Greatest country ever. Praying it survives.

Wondering what if war broke out, and conscription was req'd what would happen with our society?.... Saw the Soviets kidnapped a hockey star here, to go serve back home. 25 years old. Prayers for that war to end.

Debating what to do today. My 92 (almost 93 yo) mom failed her eye test at the DLO. I need to go see her, to coach her on ordering groceries for home delivery. I take her some cases of bottled water when I go.

But I have so many projects I need to work on, to get my barn a little cleaned up.....

Need to rebuild a small Tillotson carburetor for the Troy Bilt mini tiller with a Tecumseh 2 stroke engine. Most parts are not available from Troy Bilt. It requires a 24:1 fuel/oil ratio. Hate to have to have a special fuel tank for something I won't use much. I bought it at an auction for $60. Now have nearly $40 bucks in it. Here's the juxtaposed funny irony rub, you fix something like this, to keep stuff out of the landfill....but it takes 2 stroke fuel mix to operate....Maybe I'll use it when mosquitoes are bad outside. Maybe I'll try to sell it...

I'm worried about Randy too. Prayers.

We have a "big" guy at work, that is getting over his 3rd case of alligatoritis. He said Friday he still has no taste. Don't know of his vaccine status, but I always thought that getting it gave you some protection. Most everyone else had just a sore throat/runny nose for 5 days.

One of the side effects of a medication I take for BPH, is a full head of hair. While my goatee/facial hair is mostly purely gray now, my hair is still about 90% sandy brown. My mom still has a lot of brown in her hair. It had been getting "thin" in the back of the crown of my noggin, but it has filled back in.

Millermatic: I meant to call the local argon supplier to see what a bottle rental costs? I was told by my buddy that they want $300 to buy a bottle, then you just trade out for the price of argon when needed. I don't want to invest yet, until I see what's going on with the Millermatic 250 for sure. I need some thick metal to test it. They say it can weld up to 1/2".

RNG, I've been reading up on valve alloy technology. Metallurgy is a science of it's own. It seems the newer engines with 4 valves have solved most of the problems, just because the valve faces are so much smaller and heat deformation is greatly reduced. Are there any 4 valve conversions for old airheads? My pastor's old Moto Guzzi had something like 158,000 miles, and as far as he knows, never had the top end down. Are Guzzis allowed in your club?
Upgrades: Krauser 4-Valve Heads - Motorcycle Classics

Prayers for Bupps and wifey, the sick, our team, our Nation, and for the war in Ukraine.

Happy Independence Day!

”A republic—- if you can keep it.”

remember that this day we are celebrating a bunch of insurrectionists opposing an unelected tyrant.

In more mundane news, it is currently 76 and overcast, the birds are chirping, the Good Lord has given us another day where we are looking at leaves instead of roots, and we have another chance to get it right.

even though a pen somehow managed to survive the washing machine but NOT the dryer, with three new t-shirts in the mix.

today i am thankful that the American Petrochemical Industry provides us the opportunity to obtain - for a fairly reasonable price - industrial organic solvents like acetone so I could clean up the mess. . .

And yes - I turned off the breakers before starting, we have no standing pilot lights (all electric TVA Land house), and have multiple fans circulating air.

my sig is once again appropriate:

Already jumped to 80°

Sprayed gallon of roundup, mixed 2 more and sprayed half.
Back on porch enjoying shade. Hot in the sun.
Saw groundhog waddle out of garden under the fence, crossed the road, so must live in the overgrown bank on other side.
