2016 Mahindra 2540
I have a 2015 or 16 Mahindra 2540 shuttle. Currently I cannot shift the lever into foward or reverse. It seems to just be stuck. With the Said if you engage the clutch I can roll it back with the bucket like it was and is in neutral. Any suggestions on what the exact problem may be or how I should go about fixing? Thanks in advance.

To bump and add, could low transmission fluid level cause it to not let me engage it into forward or reverse?

Don't think low transmission fluid would effect shuttle shifting. If In neutral. And won't go forward or back sounds like linkage

I have a shuttle shift max26 it sometimes can be a pain to get shuttle into gear

Low fluid shouldn't cause an issue, unless it was very low and got ran in that condition.

This shows it to be a cable operated linkage, so cable binding or something has come off.
Have you checked the linkage going into the transmission case?

OK thanks, I will plan on disconnecting and see if what happens when I do that. I know I lost a little oil braking a hose fitting a while back. But defiantly didn't see my self loosing multiple gallons though to put me too low. I will check the sight glass as well while im there to see what it looks like as well. The Bucket and 3pt and levers do function properly at the moment(the range shifter, and 1-4, and 4wd, and PTO) So lets hope its just the linkage.

So if i unpin the linkage at the casing and my lever is functioning properly, am I looking at a severe issue?

If cable is moving with shift handle when unpinned . I'd reconnect and see if it's moving the linkage on side of transmission

Considering that it isn't moving hooked up, yes. Can't say we ever had any TYM's lock up on the shuttle, but did get to replace a few shuttle synchros.

I will check to see If that cable is actually working when the lever is moved tonight while unpinned. Should i be able to move it to forward while its unpinned by hand or by wrench?

If you are in neutral it should go both ways,
here is what you are trying to move;

So I should be able to rotate this left and right with the clutch engaged?

With the tractor off and both gearboxes in neutral, should be able to.

So with both shifters in neutral i unpinned the linkage. When the linkage was unpinned I still did not get full travel from coward and reverse but could also not turn the number 11 tab left or right in the diagram above.

Assuming you were able to get some leverage on #11?

I mean it’s definitely not going by hand…. May be able to get a pipe wrench on it but the rain got me before I could try that…

I am surprised that you could not get full travel of the lever with the cable disconnected, is there a lot of "slack" in the cable movement or a spongy feel. Is the lack of travel the same in both directions?

A small pipe wrench should provide ample leverage to approximate the normal provided by the linkage to the cable.

Was there always a noticeable "detent" feeling when shifting previously?

I agree with LouNY u should be able to move linkage 11 with small wrench . With unpinned the shift lever and cable should move freely. May have to unpin at shift handle end to see if it shift handle or cable.

Poor design. Too much leverage. It breaks at the pivot point. I’ve welded it twice. Third time I designed it differently. Works great but it’s looser but it finds the gear.

So at the end of the day, the linkage cable was bad and had a bad bushing in the lever(the lever is no longer a replaceable part apparently and had been welded back once already and was bent again), but no fixed and back in action. Also gave me a excuse to get a fluids and filters changed and replaced.
