That exaclty my point.

Here is a diagram right out of the I & T Shop manual on the 2120. Note that the part reference numbers are a bit different. So we will call this Diagram #2. And I stand corrected that the recommended fluid IS 134 Hydraulic fluid. Every thing in my 1220; Axle Housing to both hubs were long ago switched to 85-120 gear oil. :)

hydraulic fluid leaking on lower side of hub is this a remove/clean/inspect job for me or a master mechanic
On my New Holland TC26DA it was a very simple problem. Bearing had basically given up the ghost. New bearing and maybe a seal of some kind - don't remember - a little new oil and it was good to go. Hardest part was separating the hub without scratching or scoring anything.

Look at Number 6, Bevel Drive Gear, that's the really expensive part.

I think when a front hub seal goes there's possibly a bearing failure . Lift the weight of the tractor off the ground take hold of the wheel and see if there's any play when you take hold of the tire and try to move it in and out from the hub. Pour instructions but maybe you get the drift.

Hi Jasper Frank,
Quick question for you on the diagram part #5 split ring retaining ring, how do you get the bevel gear to release from that ring? I know the bevel gear snaps in with pressure, does it work the opposite way? Thanks in advance!
Kind Regards,
Steve

#5 bevel gear should just slide off the shaft. Its not retained by the ring. Its retained by the Cover Plate, and the axial. If that makes sense. The ring retains the wheel hub/axial to the cover plate. The cover plate is what attaches the hub to the tractor. Sorry words are failing me now. But after unbolting the cover, #3, the unit just pulls out and the Bevel ring gear is loose. #1 through #5 are a unit that is held together by the shaft ring. The wheel axial shaft retaining ring has nothing to do with the bevel ring gear. Be very careful with the bevel ring gear. They are very expensive, $500, to replace, if you can even find one. Once you have all the bolts off the cover, getting the cover off can be a bear. It is finely machined to fit #8, the housing with an indexing lip to it. It has to come straight back off this lip. Took me about a 1/2 hour to slowly tap and pry around the cover to get it off the housing, using brass tools.

Thank you very much JF for your reply! So how do you release the stuff bearing, etc. that is to the other side of the ring. Thanks.

My repair was because the entire wheel hub assembly had all ready pulled out and the bearings were already toasted. I only pulled out the already mangled bearings and tapped in new ones. I'm not much help here. The axial ring is just something you use a ring expander on. Once the shaft is out you can back tap out the bearings from ether side with a brass drift. You don't need a bearing press to put the new ones in. I used a large socket over the bearings and a wooden mallet.
