I'll stick with my beef, venison, chicken, turkey, rabbit and pork all raised and fed on my little place. Do use crickets and worms to catch some fish when I want in my private pond. If you want some insects for your table just asked I'll ship you a box, otherwise I'll let the chickens, ducks and geese eat all they want.
Hopefully you do not eat any products made from stored grains!

???????
I like homemade bread and cobblers. We buy rice and flour in bulk but I'm more a meat and taters guy.
I'm well aware of the insect content in stored grain and processed foods. Just don't plan on adding them into my meals on purpose.

.....and more insects. Crickets have about the same protein content as beef does and uses WAY less water to produce. And, 80% of the worlds population eats bugs in their diet.
Dunno about where you live, but it seems to me that catching enough insects to sustain yourself for a day would be a full time job, let alone if you have a family to provide for. Insects in my part of the world, while abundant aren't very big.

I'm guessing you would farm them not be putting in 20hrs a day with a bug net😄

Just opened residential water bill and the cost per gallon is 1.8 cents based on cost divided by Gallons used.

Cost is meter fee, flow fee, taxes and more fees.

From what I've read about desalization plants is that you end up with a huge amount of brine, that is too salty to just put back, locally in the ocean. It would kill every thing along the environmentally sensitive California coast line. You would have to have huge evaporation ponds and clear out the salt once and a while. Land isn't cheap along the Californa coast. They could probably sell the salt, yet, they couldn't sell it for any sort of profit, as mining and refining salt from Utah is much, much cheaper.
