So you don't know anyone in the Onida area? I actually grew up in the east, on Lake Poinsett.
I know lots of people in the Onida area. Lambs, Thomases, Suttons, Nutalls, to name a few. I went to High School in Gettysburg and Sully Buttes was in our conference and our biggest rival.

Kind of interesting what happened in the large land auction a couple of months ago. Where the locals decided to pool their money and keep the Bill Gates of the world out of there area.

For those of you who do not know there was 45oo acres of good farmground mostly in one large block up for sale. The locals put their money together and had one person bid. Then they divided up the land per pre-agreement. There was talk that this $25 million+ land deal was going to outside rich investors but the locals thwarted it.

My sister is married to Van Huse. Did you know Chris, his brother who died in a auto/farm machinery accident some years ago. I heard nothing about this farm sale.

I do not know Van Huse. The problem is that I grew up there and then went to college and left the area so it was 40 years ago. My brother stayed on the farm and probably does them. He is the one that told me about the auction - here is a link. Land Auction of 4,467.58 ACRES OF CONTIGUOUS CROP LAND in Sully County, SD – South Dakota Auction Pages

Amski in Finland is harvesting wheat with her Finnish made combine. She must be sponsored by them. Gosh it is small.

It is about scale. You own 2 acres and need to mow it so what size mower do you get? The larger your acreage is, the larger machines you need to work it in a timely fashion.. Most area's do have rocks. Note in this haversting crew is 8 combines and 4 carts working. This is in central SD.View attachment 764543
I understand that. You also need a relatively large area of flat ground to use that sized equipment though. "Flat Ground" is an oxymoron in most places here/

You know that many of the wide heads on combine flex? Here might be some of the flat fields out west you speak of

That picture shows what I am trying to say. Where are the trees and hills?

My friend uses 40ft heads now and they flex considerably. I'm gonna guess 24".
