SS high flow question

I've never had a "high flow" attachment before and now that I do.....
The small 3/8 quick connect (on the machine) has a flow arrow on it pointing away from the machine towards the attachment. I've always understood this to be the "case drain" and with this assumption, a drain would be into the machine? I just received the 3/4' quick couplers (that came on the SS) to replace the 1/2" qc couplers that came on the attachment, a disc mulcher.
I also understand that the case drain is vital to the seals in the hydraulic motor, a bent angle axial motor that I don't want to hurt before I even get started.
I've got quite a few flat face quick couples and have never seen a directional arrow stamped into it.

Yes case drain must be connected to protect shaft seal on axial piston motors.

No it's a stamped arrow pointing away from the machine. FWIW it's the Male side of the coupler.

The top (small) coupler is the one that's got the arrow.

I know of no other purpose for the small 3rd line on a high flow machine setup.

That's also my understanding of how a case drain works. There has to be small clearances in the motor for it to work which causes bypass into the case which builds up pressure. The case drain alleviates that pressure back to the reservoir before it builds up and comes out the shaft seals.

Exactly. Plus, this case drain oil is what lubricates the bearings, gears, pistons, etc on pretty much any style of hydraulic motor.

There can't be a check valve in a simple quick connect, but I'd still like some validation to this. I know hyd motors make a lot of heat, it surprised me how warm it was after about 10-15 minutes mostly running the leaf covered driveway. Turns out to be a great leaf blower . I was just looking for leaky fittings that I just installed. That little tree is the only cutting I did and I'd like to be 100% on the arrow marked flow in the wrong direction.

Those disc mulchers don't seem to make as fine a mulch as a drum mulcher but I believe you are better off in the long run with the disc type and they are bad to the bone on small trees and saplings. How many GPM does your mulcher require?

Maybe ask your dealer to 100% confirm that is indeed a case drain line. Agree not sure what else it could be but like you that arrow concerns me.

Lineman, 35-40 iirc.
I can't use the drum style. They use the ground as the "anvil" to cut against. It's just plain too rocky around here for that. The big chips and chunks are fine for my TSI work (timber stand improvement) and with mostly smaller trees up to 4-6" low value trees competing with valuable trees as my target. I'm confident in my choice for my purposes.
I like Diamond disk mowers YouTube on "operating techniques" for their unit. The ground is not involved with this size of trees other than driving on it.
