I agree that the Handicap Tags are often abused. On the other hand, we never know exactly what one's handicap is. It could be a heart problem, etc..
Nothing sets me off quicker than those important people that park right in front of the business door "just for a minute", meanwhile I have to walk a half a mile from the back of the parking lot.

Sometimes my mother in-law will drive us places, or we'll take her car and go out somewhere with her. She has handicap plates/tag. If I'm driving, and there aren't a bunch of open handicap spots, I'll drop her at the door and go park in a regular spot so someone else can use it.

I think its because in the picture the truck is lifted and there is absolutely no way someone with a legitimate physical handicap could pull themselves up into the cab.

Unless he had huge testicles to go with that huge truck, that could definitely make it difficult to walk.

Looking at the picture I don't see any stripes that designate the spaces, only the concrete stops. People park poorly enough with lines to guide them but when you don't give them any it's open season.

As for how these new cars operate, I have a new Honda Passport and the thing drives me crazy! It beeps and dings telling me I'm too close to this, and to watch out for that, it's maddening. I rather back-in the F-450!

Most of the newer commercial developments in more urban areas of Southeast Michigan have switched to 8-9 ft wide parking spots as well, with narrow driving lanes. When communities have "parking space minimums" for new development, it can be a real problem.

Almost impossible to steer my dinosaur 2500HD into a spot and back out in these tight lots, so I just don't even bother. I'll park far out as needed, or even or rear of the building if I have to (sometimes in a fire lane?). But usually, I take my beater VW or wifey's Mazda instead.

The part that makes me seethe is the near impossibility of avoiding door dings. I have two young kids myself, so it's hard to constantly mention this to them. But honestly it's also the obese or partially disabled folks who can't physically get in and out without maximum door clearance.

Yup! Employees can park in the same lot all summer, . . . cover the lines with snow and you'd swear they never parked a car in their life.

Reminds me of getting dinged on a driver's license driving exam for driving on the pavement, where everyone else was driving, rather than on the hard packed, icy snow, where the actual lane was. The other ding was slowing slightly to roll up my hand cranked window after hand signalling. (-20F at the time...)

I used to question why someone in a monster truck would have a disability plate, but came to realize a lot of them are disabled vets, guys younger than me, that probably enjoy the big trucks. Sometimes it takes a while to get things through my skull.

However, disability or not, should probably park between the lines.
