There is something in the manual. You have to release something to release hydro pressure to tow it so it will freewheel. Sorry I can't remember what you need to do.....I've never had to tow mine so didn't pay much attention to it.
If I was home I would scan the page in my manual. If you want I can get it next Tuesday.
No worries. Hope to never have to tow. :)

I guess we need what type of utv he be planning on.

I know most belt driven utv's (primary / secondary clutch setups) will likely tell you to remove the drive belt first. I know mine says belt must be removed prior to towing.

Mechanic here: all the belt-driven systems tow just fine.

Imo and experience with cvt transmissions on snowmobiles, towing a broken snowmobile out of the woods you need to remove the belt, however big however most non utility snowmobiles do not have a way to disengage the track from spinning the chain case, which inturn spins the secondary clutch which will spin the primary and your engine, even at low towing rpms there is enough resistance of the belt touching the sheaves to spin the engine in my experiences. A utv however can be shifted in neutral if by putting it in neutral it will disengage your transaxle from spinning your secondary your probably good to go especially at slower speeds. If it were me I wouldn't trust what a salesman says and would do research of the drivetrain of the model I was buying if I were towing it around. Disclaimer I've never tore apart a cvt drive train on a sxs yet. lol

Wonder why mapleleaf's manual says to remove the belt?

not sure why but it says in the UTV manual but they seem serious about it as they also say no warranty if I tow it.?? I be no expert only see what I read. this is cut and past from the manual below:

NOTICE Do not tow this vehicle —
towing can seriously damage the ve-
hicle's drive system.
When contacting a towing or trans-
porting service, be sure to ask if they
have a flatbed trailer, loading ramp or
power ramp to safely lift the vehicle
and tie-down straps. Ensure the vehi-
cle is properly transported as specified

in this section

And under warranty exclusions it says no warranty if ever towed.
The following are not warranted under any circumstances.......
incidental or consequential damages, or damages of any kind including without

limitation towing, storage, telephone, rental, taxi, inconvenience, insurance
coverage, loan payments, loss of time, loss of income

That brings me to my question. I work alone a lot on the property, I think LOTS of times it would be handy to have the tractor AND the UTV with me.
I bring the UTV with a trailer:
