What TV did you watch as a kid?

I've been watching clips on Youtube of a show which was on way too late for me, even as an adult. I never realized what a class act Johnny Carson was and what a great show he put on. He was a great interviewer. He did his homework so that he knew the right questions to ask; and seemed able to put anyone at ease. "Would you please welcome..."
Steve Allen was a great Tonight Show host, and Carson filled his shoes well. The quality of the guests really declined when he retired. I remember him chatting with Truman Capote, Carl Sagan, and he gave George Carlin his first TV appearance.

I used to stay up late with my mom and watch that show and eat popcorn. Most of the time I had no clue what they were talking about, but I enjoyed the popcorn and hanging out with my mom. I still watch late night programming to this day.

Things that were said, the jokes, etc., just would not get passed the PC police, especially when Richard Pryor was on the show.
His monologue one night included questions which they never asked Miss America contestants. Some of them would not get passed if I posted them here. “Miss Nevada, why is it that the only other title you’ve held is ‘Miss Holiday Inn’”, was one of his less risqué questions.

From what I've read, he was quite aloof and stand-offish when off stage. Amazing how many actors are very introverted in real life, being on stage allows their alter-ego to come out.

Saturday Night Live was another show that was way past my bed-time. The couple times I did watch it made me wonder what the hype was about. To me it seemed more juvenile than funny.

That’s what made a lot of it funny! I guess everyone has a different sense of humor!
We thought one of the great skits was an old English one where the couples in full costume were introduced by their Titles the funniest one was Lord and Lady Douchbag!😂😂🇬🇧
