my neighbor had some sort of mole extermination kit that hooked up to vehicle exhaust that channeled the fumes underground. i would not recommend, but a strange way. not sure how effective it was,..

My friend had a worn out 1 cylinder motor on wheeled dolly. The exhaust was a longer flex tube he would put down the gopher hole. Said he often put oil in the gas to make it smoke more than it normally did.

rekee / do you use these for gophers or moles or both? Gophers are herbivores while moles are mainly meat/grub/earthworm/insect eaters. I used to use these on gophers until I found effective traps. thanks
No gophers here so just using the poison peanuts for moles. I attempted to use traps in the past but they were ineffective.

We had a mole problem right after we moved in. I used trap and killed a bunch but there were plenty left to pretty much destroy my lawn. One of the scientists at the local CT AG station told me about Milky Spore. It kills the Japanese beetle grubs that the moles were after. It took about a year but the moles were gone.
I was also told the spore lasts about 25 years. Sure enough about 23 years later the moles made a comeback. Round 2 with Milky Spores.

About Milky Spores

We had a cat that would catch a voles and once in a while a mole. We had it about 12 years in that time it caught about 3 moles.

Maybe bc of your direct application of "liquids the moles might not like", you cat doesn't like it either and leaves tunnels alone.
Nah, my observation of cats' disinterest in moles predates my use of "liquids the moles might not like". :ROFLMAO:

Never tried it with moles, but have done that as a last resort with woodchucks. Seemed to work.

I tried one application of that and it didn't seem to have much effect. Maybe didn't cover enough area and the moles just moved to another part of the yard. Have to give it another shot.

Or you didn't have grubs to begin with, and the moles are eating earthworms, like most moles.

Trapped two more this week. We have nearly eradicated them… rarely see a run. If I do,I just place a trap on the main run, not a feeding run. If I catch a mole there, I place the trap again. Moles are solitary creatures and don’t share territory, but they will adopt an old run if abandoned… and bam, you get that rascal too.

If it's a "U" shaped mound it's a gopher and any poison grain or pellets will work. Moles have a round mound and they eat works so there's a product called Talpirid that looks like gummy worms. I leveled the mounds with a shovel and when a new one popped up, I would locate the runway about 6" away from the mound. Then make a hole 3/4" or so to the runway, drop in a half of a Talpirid worm and seal the top of the hole you just made so light doesn't get down the hole. Think i've only had two come back on 5 acres since I got rid of them several years ago. Neighbors on one side has lots of them but none here.

Since owning and operating ranch for last 30 yrs, the moles have really taken-off around the 2-acre house area. I use cinch traps for gophers and have caught 100's of them and have them under control; the moles I do not.

Looking for solutions that one person can implement to start knocking out these pests. I know they are moles, not voles or gophers...I really would appreciate your help and suggestions on any means you have been able to successfully eradicate them. Thank you very much !!
I did have grubs and sprayed for them which helped but the most effective way I found was the poison pellets. I poke a hole in the active tunnel try not to collapse it drop a few peanuts in and cover hole with loose soil. Do this all along active tunnel not as satisfying as pulling out a trap with a dead mole in it but it has worked for me every time except once. I did stray from the process last summer where one was eluding me by a gate in the fence around the dog pen . I would smash the mound the mole made cause the pellets were not killing him so I use a pointed crow bar and stabbed the hole and all around it (it would go 1 1/2' down then poured a gallon of gas in the holes .(don't light it) I flattened the trails and mound and he was gone.

I've had good success by poisoning them I fill bottlecaps with decon, and hot bacon grease. when it set just drop them in the holes. If you have dogs or cats, should probably not do this.

Spray your yard for GRUBS. The moles or voles chase the GRUBS. Skunks and Coons will also dig them up and leave round circular holes.

I have treated for grubs with some success in the lawn area...not practical in the larger area. I've also used a product called MOLETOX, where it was practical. It kills moles and voles (which are a larger problem for me).
Moles tend to be a long-term problem; good luck.

We have two dogs, so can't use poison. For the past three years, I have used Juicy Fruit gum (15 pieces for $1). I just find the active tunnel, dig a small hole and stick in a piece of gum. I may wear gloves or not, does not make any difference. I usually put out about 10-15 pieces of gum at a time and then wait several days to see new runs.
Only one night did I have a opossum dig up my gum- a dog never has. This gum is also much cheaper than poison.

We have about 7 barn cats they run around and no moles or any other little critters

The best and easiest way is chewing gum. I use spearment, unwrap and roll up and poke a hole in the run and shove the gum in the run and cover back up. The sweatness attracks them and the gum plugs them up and kills them. I've gotten rid of hundreds of them this way.

There is a lot of info on the net that debunks the chewing gum method. Mainly that moles are insect and meat eaters, not looking for artificially sweetened chewing gum.

I'll echo what some others have said and treat for grubs. They are bad for the lawn anyway. Its not instant results, as it takes a couple years to actually get them all if you time the applications right....but once you eliminate the moles food source....they will move on

There is a product in Canada Called 'Shots' or something similar Like a large firecracker 5 in a package. TSC store. If you cannot find them Try plugging a lot of the holes and leave a few in a row about 20' apart open. Have some shovelfulls of dirt handy and insert a lighted Highway Fusee into the hole and cover with dirt. Repeat for the other 2 holes. Continue on doing that heading from house to edge of your lawn.
I have seen moles dig right out of the ground to avoid fumes. Others will be dead in their tunnels. Good luck. You may have to repeat this process a few times. Moles never came back. I ordered a mole trap, never used it.

There is a thing sold at Ace Hardware, Amazon and other places that one lights and sticks in the mole run. It creates a gas that kills the moles. I usually use two or three when I have a mole. There is also a certain amount of psychological satisfaction in this method! Seriously, I find it works better than the traps. Victor Gasser or something like that.
