Not normal. Mine doesn't change sound whether the clutch in or out.
If you have the 4030C loader, the lynch pins will rattle and sound like an engine knock, but that's on either side of the steering column, not the rear end.
And ditto MiniDonkey22, the clutch is only used for starting and the PTO. It's nice to have as you can ease into the startup of an implement.
