GPS Tracker for a tractor

I have never and will never be that paranoid about theft to go to those extremes. I carry insurance, plain and simple for replacement value.

I have a few trail cameras on my property and they work pretty good, but not always. From what I've seen on Facebook and other sites, trail cameras usually get stolen from the criminal since they are so hard to hide, and also have in a position to get a good picture.

On this property, there are a few large oak trees, a few buildings, and a lot of open area. I do not think that a game camera will accomplish anything.

I like the idea of making the tractor harder to start. I really like the loose wires idea!!! Make it look broke down. I agree that a chain is too easy to cut off to be of much use.

I'm looking at the different tracking devises suggested. In my opinion, I have two thief issues. The local kids who take it for fun, or the pro who takes it to sell somewhere out of the area. In both cases, I believe my only chance of getting it back will be with some sort of tracking devise. Fortunately, it's an older, 2wd, open station tractor that isn't as desirable as some newer, better equipped tractors. But it's also a 2012 without any smog on it, so there's some demand for that.

Eddie... I have master disconnects not only on the starting batteries but elsewhere so defeating one, don't defeat the other and my units sit out in fields all the time and so far, no issues.

I hate thieves. Doesn't matter the age or condition of the tractor.

Disabling the tractor seems to be the most logical.

Seems that my location is my best deterrent. I do have a hidden disconnect on the tractor also.

PLUS - the very first few year here. I met all "unknowns" coming into my yard with a BIG shotgun. I developed somewhat of a persona - "crazy man with shotgun - might just shoot you."

It has served me well............

There's a fairly large area NW of me 30 miles that the locals call "The Nations". Not sure why. It's all pasture and scattered timber. Cattle ranchers abound. The Ranchers always have a rifle or shotgun in the rear window rack of their farm truck.

I grew up that way here. I don't think anything of it. 20 years ago when my wife and I first got together we would go for country rides to show her where she lived. She was a city girl. At The Nations one Sunday afternoon cruising backroads. Stopped on top of a hill to enjoy the scenery. Rancher came along, stopped to ask if we were having trouble (and to let us know he saw us). We exchanged pleasant conversation briefly and he drove off. Terry immediately said "did you see the rifle hanging in his back window?" Freaked her out. Gave me comfort.

Same here Oversized. I'm usually carrying my 44 anyway. Open carry is legal here.

Open carry here as well. I don't carry. I carried for years out of necessity.

One of my favorite movie lines "If I need a rifle there will be plenty of them laying around".

That's only 11 years old.

Find out how much it would cost to insure for fire and theft.

Add up the annual costs of cell phone camera service, like cell game cams or cell security cams. Let's say $25 a month. That's $300 per year for the service plus the initial cost of the camera. For a tidy number, let's just guess you would have about $600 in a good camera and annual cell phone fee for the camera.

That comes out to $1.64 per day for peace of mind.

Not saying it's gonna help prevent a theft or even help catch the thief or get your machine back, but it's still just $1.64 per day. A bottle of pop in a vending machine is a couple bucks, to put that in perspective.
;)

Cell phone security camera has the benefits of instantly moving the picture off of the property, so if the camera is stolen, too late, the picture is secure elsewhere. It can also notify you by your cell phone of what's going on, so you can determine if you need to call the police or something. Just be sure you get a camera and software that's able to determine a human from an animal, or you might get a hundred pictures a day of a robin pooping on your tractor's hood! (been there, done that!🤣)
