Everybody has the right to their own opinions...!
I didn't mean to start an argument and really like lots of things you say, /pine, but everyone has opinions and certainly not all opinions are facts just like no one is right 100% of the time on everything (except my dear wife ). Like everything farming had it's beginnings and my understanding is corn originally started very small, nothing like we have known for years. Is corn a crop? Of course. Grass fed beef cows graze pasture and are fed hay.
I'll ask my hay farming friend if he believes hay is a crop! $Millions in equipment, fertilizer, pesticides, weed control, seed, irrigation, planting, harvesting, baling.

Now I did work with a woman that had a custom haying business. She had two tractors, two bailers, wagons, etc...

She would harvest for other people, and keep half of the hay and sell it on the open market. I'm not sure I'd call her a farmer. But she was involved in agriculture.

However, Webster's Dictionary definition is:

a person who cultivates land or crops or raises animals (such as livestock or fish)

That's a pretty broad brush, so I'm gonna call her a farmer.
One person with one dairy cow selling 40 gallons milk a week is a farmer.

What argument...??
I could not care less about technicalities or nomenclature...just a hill of beans (NPI)...

BTW...around here...nobody spends anything on pesticides, weed control, irrigation etc., etc...on hay fields...fertilizer they get for free...lots of poultry farmers here... hay is second...

I just got off the phone with a friend's lawyer...the friend owns several sod farms in West central FL....they are owned through several offshore LLCs...my friend just sold me a small plot in the middle of one of the sod farms...I leased it back to him but I am still partial owner of a sod farm...so now I'm a farmer too...!!!

Then you understand exactly what I mean.

I'm sure Baker and Sons sells a lot more haybines and rakes than they do corn choppers and silage wagons.

Yep, they sure do.
Probably Lashley also.

I fixed it for ya...!

No, but anytime you want to help put in hay, we could use the help. Then cows don’t make their own hay.

Dad & I got up hay for his horses. He used a sickle bar, raked it in wind rows. Then he drove tractor while I pitchforked it into trailer.
That was a heck of a job!

Seems like this thread has gone off the rails. What does all this hay/farming talk have to do with solar panels?

A bit self-contradictory don't you think?
OMG!
OK, so let me know where all the “Murrican made“ phones are, K?

Like I have a choice?

What is your definition of a "real" farmer?
Something he knows nothing about, but plays a real good “pseudo-expert” lol.

I’ll get on the phone tomorrow and tell my accountant that all the Schedule F’s he filed for me were bogus, because /Pine says it’s not farming

Ahahahahahahahahahaha. I can’t stop laughing. OMG please help! :ROFLMAO:

People can huff and puff until they are as blue in the faces as Smurfette...it's not going to change the fact that it is entirely an opinion whether a hay grower is really a farmer or not...

Just curious...what do you call a guy that owns no land...just a tractor, some implements and a truck and trailer...who only cuts and bales hay on other peoples land...?
In Alberta if you make $10,000/year in farm income you're a farmer. It doesn't matter how you do it. What matters is whether your producing a farm commodity. Hay certainly qualifies.

You didn't fix anything...inutritional facts don't mean didly...!

The grasslands (basically hay) kept the millions of bison alive for eons without any "farming"...
Just curious...not going to bother searching IRDC....!

but how many "crops" can you name that don't require planting each season? (fruit and orchard crops don't count)

Most of the real farms around here separate their pastures on a rotation and raise enough hay for their livestock...many own rakes etc but a lot of the machinery is loaned from farm to farm...
Oh Lord, quit before you make an even bigger _____ of yourself.

hehehe...what I'm LMAO at is hay growers that call themselves farmers....too funny...!

like a "hay flea"...hopping from field to field...!
:poop: !!!

Damn, I guess all those schedule F’s are bogus. My accountant is a hay farmer, too.
Too funny piney, but don’t quit, you’re rollin!
“Did we quit when the Germans bombed Pearl Harbor?”

A farmer without a tractor.

Is that about what you hope to get from a cow?
Nooo...simple example. Whether a plumbing company has 1 or 100 employees, it's still a plumber. Anything that a farmer raises whether corn wheat or hay is a crop. Opinions don't matter.
You can eviscerate me if you want...feel free.

So a farmer that is raising energy, using solar panels is ,,,, a farmer!
