Woke up coughing a bunch. Should have worn a mask mowing yesterday.

Thanks popgadget for finding my thread size, don’t think I’ll mess with it till tap comes in.

Hope wngsprd is just on a hike.

Still need to hang a projector at church that is 16’ up. Been putting that off, looks like I can rent a 16 ft step ladder.

I have a split rail post rotten that needs replaced. But it needs to go exactly where old one is, so gotta pull old post from below grade.

Good Morning!!!! 45F @ 5:30AM. Lots of sunshine. High 74F. Winds NW at 5 to 10 mph.

Could the gas have gone bad in the Gravely, Drew? But yes, try swapping back in the old plugs first, that's a lot easier than draining and refilling with fresh gas. And make sure BOTH ends of the plug wires are seated properly, and both ends are clean and shiny.

Glad you made a new friend of the non-wolf dog, Jay. Nice to have you back, too.

Thanks for the reminder that winter isn't quite done yet, Thomas. Hope that's the last gasp for you.

I bet you don't lose many arguments with that digging bar, Frits.

Whew, what a day! Contractors were bumping and thumping on the house promptly at 7 AM, then when I'd just finished breakfast came a knock on the door. The concrete for the porch cover foundations was on the way, and did I still want to run the PVC for the roof sprinkler line? If so, the time was NOW! Found my box of fittings and managed to cobble something together just in time. Not pretty, but it'll work, and most of it got buried anyway.

The started the burn pile and got the grapple back on the FEL, finding and dispatching a baby rattle snake on the process. No live-and-let-live when it comes to those in the work area. Spent most of the rest of the day feeding the fire and got the next-to-last wood pile burned, not bothering to save even the larger trunks as I'll never get through what's already down and stacked as it is.

Still had enough daylight left to wash all the bugs off the car, and even made it through all the mail that was being held while I was away. Got the forks back on the tractor to move the lumber for the porch cover out of the way and closer to the work area, but thought I'd better have another pair of eyes to guide me instead of tearing up expensive wood. So that'll be first thing this morning.

Need to make a grocery run this morning, not sure what the afternoon will bring.

Hang in there, gang, Friday's comin'!

"dispatching a baby rattle snake on the process"

RNG, You had the meat and you had the fire. Can you tell us if they taste just like chicken? :ROFLMAO:

Chris
Poor thing was about as big as a McDonald's french fry. Not enough meat to bother with...

Good morning! Low of 38°, heading up to the low 60's today. Heard a crash of something in the backyard during last night's wind.... around 02:00. Still haven't found what it was. Could be over at the neighbors......

Just breezy right now, wind expected to pick up again by noon. 25-30 mph, gusts to 45. Maybe it will run out of steam today......

Probably make the mulch runs today, at least the start.....
Wifey still has to examine a couple bags that I picked up to see if it will pass QA.
No sense to get a few pallets worth if she doesn't like it.

Need to run some more drip lines for the bulbs that got replanted. A bunch are already poking through the surface. We calculated out the approximate amount of bulbs vs. current cost of buying at retail ---- About $5,000 worth at todays cost. WOW!
I guess the greenhouse was worth the investment!

Drew, hope you find the problem with the Gravely. Crud in the carb maybe?

RNG, good to hear construction is progressing. Did you ever find matching roof tiles?

Ken, that looks like too much work with the digging bar.

Dennis, hope you can get the tire fixed without more trouble. Good idea to chase the threads before proceeding. Yes, do the studs /nuts first, then the bolts.

Ron, cool squirrel pic. He's letting you know he wants some sunflower seeds......

Time to finish my coffee and get into something.....
Everyone have a great day!

The talk of the baby rattlesnake reminded me of a very rural land development project we responded out to.....
for a snake bite....

There was a group of immigrant workers that set up a "camp" in the development. When we got there, the snakebite was insignificant and didn't need treatment.

But..... there were at least ten very large rattlesnake skins hung up drying on a line. Yes, they were eating the snakes and the skins will be turned into a pair/s of boots. They told me it really does taste like chicken.
I didn't try any.......

69F and sunny @ 10:30, supposedly heading up to 84F for the day's high ... which, if it happens, will set a new record high temp.

Did not get bird feeders refilled yesterday, so that's definitely on the agenda for today.

I did get a bunch of scrap metal loaded into the van though, much of it metal studs from friend's daycare remodel. Ended up taking the EMT conduit and electrical boxes off of that and saving those.

Woman was collecting sticks and using B&D battery string trimmer to mow down the weeds in the garden before they do to seed. Daffodils, peonies, and iris all looking good, will have to get some pictures of those.

A little bit of straightening up in the shop done.

Called mower shop to express my displeasure about no call back or pick up of the Cub. Ended up getting a different guy this time, one who actually seemed to have a clue.

When I explained to him what it was doing (no sound from the lift pump pressurizing) he said he hadn't seen any failures of pumps but was pretty sure they had some fuses that should be checked and asked me to hold while he walked out to the showroom floor to verify.

Cub Manual is pretty generic (covers several models) and doesn't really explain or picture where one might find them.

He came back and said yup ther are three AT fuses on the side of the engine hiding in dead end Delphi Weather-pack connectors.

So I told him thanks and said I would check those out and get back to him.

Headed down to the barn and pulled the three fuses. None of them were blown, but when I turned on the ignition key after replacing them the lift pump was buzzing again and she started right up and kept running ... (y)

So I called him back and left him know the problem appeared to be solved.

After that I hooked up the dump cart and dragged it up to the shop so I could replace the wheel bearings on the one side later and then started mowing.

Got around 10 passes done on the lawn and it died again. Walked down to the barn and got the van which had the storage case with all the fuses in it and drove it back up to the shop. Replaced the three fuses, still no joy.

Called mower shop ... but they were closed by then so left a message that the problem wasn't solved and it was looking like it would need to be picked up after all.

Drove back down the house and got The Woman and Kubota so we could tow it back down to the house which we then did. Was a painful experience for The Woman (She doesn't drive the Kubota much)

Decided to give it one last try after we got down there and turned the key on: lift pump was buzzing again ... (y)

So I started it up and told Her I was going to go ahead and mow the dandelions since things were getting pretty tall ...

Something which She was none too happy about ... mainly because She would be involved in the retrieving it, if it died again ...

Ended up getting pretty much the entire front done just after sunset before it got dark:

Had to call mower shop this morning and tell them to never mind ... at least for the moment.

Plan for today is to get the lawn down here around the house mowed first, and then run over the front again after the cut grass has had a chance to dry out, dropping the deck another 1/2 inch ... which will hopefully get most of the dandelion seed heads that I didn't get yesterday.

Did get quote back from steel supplier. I had asked for 2 x 2 x 5/16 angle which they didn't have in stock, he offered 1/4 or 3/8 ... think I'll go with the 1/4 ($50 cheaper than the 3/8), which should be plenty heavy enough for the mobile base.

Hopefully they will be able to have that ready by tomorrow and I'll run down with whatever other scrap metal I can get loaded up by then and get that out of here.

Need to get cracking, hope everyone is having a good Thursday ... (y)

I had it out in AZ, and it tasted a bit like chicken, but didn't like it.
To me Alligator, rattlesnake and crocodile tasted similar and I won't need to try them again.
