What type of metal to add for the brush guard?

Perforated steel is another option. McMaster sells that also.

I like perforated better. Looks better IMO. 14 or 16 gauge with 1/2" holes

I do too, if I do a insert I more than likely will use that instead of expanded. May go a bit smaller on hole size , just not sure yet.

I made mine out about 1 inch expanded metal. 7-14-11 Grill with Expanded Metal.jpg I also added bracing before adding the expanded metal. Smaller would have worked, but I didn't want to obstruct the lights. Any quality mill supply will have samples you can look at to decide what you want.

I used a non- flattened expanded metal. It's very heavy and open, but I installed it on both sides of the guard and slightly staggered. I wanted it really strong, so I wouldn't have to replace later. It's called 3lb grating. It's a 1/4" thick steel plate prior to expanding. The openings are 1" x 3 1/4" +/-.

Yes, I realize I am bumping an 8 year old thread. I am looking for just this information and wondered if anyone had more to add.

I found both perforated and expanded metal on metal depot. About 260 for perf or 100 for expanded (2'x4').

Thoughts and ideas are welcome.

I went to my local welding fab shop.
Got 24x28 1/8 inch, then ACE hardware for u-bolts and mounted up.
Then clearing a stormed broken limb the broken portion swung into grill and put a nice dent!
But save the front end.
So if you have a local fab shop talk to the floor hand for a look and then make the buy.
You'll have peace of mind in a few hours. Ya gonna paint it orange right? heh of course....!

I bought this for my tractor and also the matching chain bucket. It holds 20’ of chain. Perfect. He will also do requests for products for other tractor brands than Kubota. A simple drill of the factory grill guard and bolt on.

Do a lot of limb work with grapples. Gravel screening from scrap yard provides industrial strength protection for $.30/#. Be sure to add protection from coming up from underneath too.
