Greetings, I’ve just reached 200 hours on “Artie” my PT 425. While I have changed the hydraulic fluid filter every 50 hours, I’ve not changed the fluid itself. It still looks pretty clear. Can I go with just another filter change, or should I really be changing out the fluid as well?

That's gonna be up to the other folks and you. ;)

Personally, I've never changed the hydraulic fluid in my 2001 PT425. I've added a quart every 50 hours to makeup for filter change. I've got 1000 hours on it, so I've added 5 gallons of oil to it over the years, plus a few more for hose leaks/replacements. I've always added Mobil1.

We'll see how it goes. 🙃

Change it. You'll sleep better. Lol.

If it's clear the mossroad method should be fine. If it's low, milky at all find/fix where the leak or water is coming from and change (or process) the fluid.

The mods recommended like adding a tank magnet etc are good advice

Thanks,
I’ll continue change the filter and add as needed.
Cheers,

After seven or eight years, I find the oil in my PT gets darker, thins, and affects the hillclimb ability. If the bottom of the tank is still shiny with a bright flashlight, I would not sweat it. If your oil is still clear, and the viscosity looks good, I would go for the patented @MossRoad method.

All the best,

Peter

I have had my machine for 15 years and have yet to change the oil. That said just wait. You will rupture a hose and it will get changed automatically for you.
