I was splitting wood with a PTO pump powered splitter and just turned the tractor off without disengaging the PTO. Now I can not move the handle to disengage the PTO and of course the tractor will not start with the PTO still engaged. How do I fix this? Thanks.

Can you undo the splitter input shaft connected to PTO manually? See if you can turn the PTO shaft by hand while tractor is OFF?

I tried that and nothing changed. I just spoke with someone at the dealer and she said I need to release the hydraulic pressure and then the lever should move. SHe did not know how to do that on my tractor. Any thoughts on how to do that?

OK problem solved. I did something that I hate to do. I pushed much harder. It made a popping sound, the lever moved and the tractor started. Note to self; never turn off the tractor without disengaging the PTO first.

Do you know if you PTO is live (dual clutch) or independent and hydraulically activated? in the case of dual clutch is all mechanical engagement. so when you said tried, did you mean you disconnected the implement input shaft from tractor PTO splined shaft from tractor? how do you engage and disengage? lever or a switch?

I was about to suggest that , along with changing gear shifter, clutching all the way and trying. For me I have to lower the rpm, move forward and back and then try to disengage the PTO. I almost always disengage pto with engine on at the lowest RPM and clutch fully compressed. I don't have live PTO on my Ford and it is transmission driven PTO. glad you got it un-stuck.

You may not always be able to turn off the pto though before the engine shuts off.

Example - If you stall the tractor while doing something with the 3 pt

This tractor should have a independent PTO and has a wet clutch. You may need to open the PTO switch and start the machine. Then release the PTO.

Something that doesn't make sense is the PTO pump is bound to the PTO shaft even with the tractor off. The woman at the dealership was probably suggesting that you release the pressure on your splitter to allow the pump to take the torque out of the PTO drivetrain.

Anyway, you shoved the PTO lever (ouch) and accomplished the same thing.
