I am converting my WR Long 4 N 1 bucket to skid steer quick attach and am wondering if anyone else has done this. Trying to decide where to position the weld-on adapter plate vertically. The adapter plate the same height as the back of the bucket, at the bottom horizontal support. There is about 3" below that, with the curve/angle at the bottom to account for the dozer blade part of the bucket. I have seen a suggestion that the bottom of the plate be 6" above the bottom of the back of the bucket, I assume so that the pins done get worn from dragging in the dirt. I do not know how far the pins will extend through the holes when attached, so I have no reference in this area.
Also, the bucket has the support brackets for the loader pins on both sides of the loader arms. I plan to cut a straight line across the back of the bucket from the top to bottom support and leave the parts of the brackets at the same level and plane of the cut. The possible problem is that I will not be able to access the inner bracket on either side to weld it to the adapter plate, so they will no longer be connected for support. I don't know how much that matters. I am thinking I will run stitch beads along the top and bottom edges for more support, and weld the outer bracket to the plate, but it will be 1.125" recessed under the plate on each side, so welding in there may be tricky to get to. This makes me also wonder if I need to cut one bracket completely off the bucket and weld it back on at the end of the adapter plate, so I can get good welds all the way around.
Supporting pics attached. I laid a ruler across where I plan to cut the bucket brackets. The tape measure shows the width the the adapter plate.
All advice appreciated.
I plan to cut a hole in the plate for the hydraulic hoses to go through, and to give me access to the T's for maintenance.
And if one of the other forums would be better suited for this thread, perhaps an admin can move it there for me.
Thanks,
Chris
