Please share your thoughts on 1 vs the other. Does anyone know if the 4820 has the rear 3 point hitch control so you don't have to get back in the cab?

It does not. That was one of the reasons I picked the T574. My dealer was going to give me the same price on 5520. I liked the creature comfort more. @CloverKnollFarms and I bought all at the same time but made different choices. These are both great tractor values, but have slightly different features.

You mentioned being worried about TYM dropping the Branson line. They could have just done it when they finished the takeover. I expect over time they will merge some of the things to make an when better tractor. They deliberately moved parts to the GA plant (Branson) not likely they do that if they wanted to just jettison the brand. All dealers got to order all models. I think they probably still lean toward their legacy models (minds stocks mostly Branson legacy models).

I was torn because the 4820 does not have the rear 3pt control, but I had already decided to install a quick attach... So it doesn't make a lot of difference now, especially with the hydraulic top link as well. You can do it all from the operator seat

Even though I have a ROPS tractor, the rear 3 pt control still very nice and handy to have. I fabricated one for mine. It's fairly easy to do and it doesn't need to be over done as mine. Something simpler will work fine. If you can fabricate a little bit, it's another option to consider.

We share the same dealer. Great folks but I highly recommend using your local dealer. If you don’t support them they will not be there when you need them. Plus they may choose not to work on it if you need them too or their customers would take priority over you.

Unfortunately we don't have the breadth of choices up here that you have in Texas. Most dealers only carry a few tractors on the lot and if they order it for you it cost another $3,000 just in shipping that's not in the budget.

Sorry to hear that but thanks for thinking of me lol. I just called and talked to your big text guys in the service department. They say the Branson is definitely built heavier but to do the third function you give up the integrated Factory control they have to replace the entire joystick which I guess is okay. The bigger thing is they're absolutely is no remote for the three-point on the back side. But in all honesty we're using this tractor for the loader so probably the added hydraulic flow is pretty important as is just the overall build quality and the four-speed. transmission

Say what?? I ordered my 4820. Took about three weeks, and it didn't cost me a dime extra. They even delivered it to my shop.

Crazy right? That is what my closest dealer quoted me...$3k just for shipping. Regardless, i am really stuck guys.

Does anyone live close to Big Tex that might be able to go sit in the 494 and 4820 cabs and provide a review as to size, layout etc? (only if you are really close, not looking to put anyone out) My 4820 is 5 hours away (10 hours round trip) and that is more than my dad can handle. He pretty much has to limit his activity to 2-3 hours at a time.

PTSG...I am going to show that to him and see if he might be able to fabricate som3thing as well. Thanks for the pic!

I am thinking the handrailes on the 4820 and the grab bar for entering the cab might be really helpful to him. Plus the seat looks a lot nicer

Still undecide though...the 4820 near us (5 hours away) was their demo and has 82 hours on it...they want $35k for it.

I checked out the new 20 series when they came out with the 4 range H pattern. It is a very nicely laid out cab. I fit in it well. A good bit more roomy than my 4815 Cab. The one I tested was the 5520. The 4820 has the same engine as my tractor. Very smooth running machine. The synchronized range shifter is extremely nice. I have some photos I took that day. The dash may be different now but this one had the temp gauge. Hopefully they are back using this one. Hope this helps.

I don't know if Big Tex has a 494 in stock. Like I said, they like to push the former Branson models. They had no problem getting me a 574. I know they sell a few legacy TYM. They will be closed tomorrow or I could run by. They are not 'close', but literally on the highway about halfway between our current house and our farm. I was by there on Thursday.

It does have diff lock. See the 8th picture I posted. It is the pedal on the far left.

Yes it has heat as well.

The H pattern range selector is soooo smooth too. Like butter. I heard the old straight throw levers were sort of a bear at times. I’ve really enjoyed the cruise control on mine as well.

Thanks Clover. Was surprised to find this in the user manual for the 4820:

"Do not operate the boom cylinder and bucket cylinder at the same time. A loader may malfunction due to insufficient oil flow."

Also noticed no draft control on the 4820. No usb ports, no rear hitch control, lower rear 3 point hitch lift capacity by 600 lbs, 100 lb less loader capacity and 5 inches less height.

Looking that the new specs in the manual for the 494, it now has more hydraulic flow than the 4820.

Hmmm...the needle is swinging back to the 494.
