Massey Ferguson 1754
1754 Hydro pops out of 2nd gear (Turtle gear) Most always on a slight hill. Doesn't matter if going forward or reverse. Tractor will free wheel down the hill after it pops out of gear. I bought it 8-2018. It is 4 wheel drive. Started doing it with low hours. Now has 410 hours. It seems like Tractor has to get up to operating temperature before this happens. Dealership says this isn't happening anywhere else!!!

sounds like the detent is damaged or worn. I use to have a issue with a John deere 790 jumping out of gear for that reason. they told me it was a easy fix when the dealership repair it.

the tractor has three ranges (Gears). Low, medium and high or Snail, turtle and rabbit. Dealer says linkgage is good. Gear shift always pops forward into neutral. There is a neutral posistion between the gears.

a detent is a spring and either a pin or ball that locks a leaver into it position. mine went out at 80 hrs. no problem after it was fixed

Dealer says they have to tear rear end apart to fix something like that. Does that make sense?
Again, Dealer says linkage and gear shift on outside is OK.

Detents usually consist of a hard pin (or hard ball) nicely rounded at one end, which drops into a groove or socket in an adjacent, sliding component, and held into said groove with a pretty stout spring, thus locking the sliding component in position. If the spring breaks, the pin will not engage the groove firmly enough to prevent the sliding component from moving out of position.
Perhaps you could shift it into and out of ALL gears several times and try to compare the amount of "snap" it takes to move between gears. If the problem gear moves in and out of its position more easily than the other 2 positions, there may indeed be a problem with a detent.
And yes, it's possible that that would be a significant amount of work to replace the pin (ball) and spring. Or there could be a convenient access plug screwed into the case and make the spring and pin accessible from the exterior of the transmission.

This morning I talked to dealer and they said I was using the 4 wheel drive to much. the front wheels spin faster than rear tires so when I turn any little slip of rear tire is causing it to pop out of gear. Dealer drove it around shop area on level ground for 4 hours and couldn't make it fail. So I ordered a GoPro yesterday and will install on tractor. They say they have to see it fail. I'm not turning short or making it bind.
