Yes, BUT, these plans and actions from the OEMs are stemming from state and federal EV transition mandates that are based upon aspirations of politicians - not actual science or study of what is feasible.
In order for there to be 17 million EVs made and sold each year (USA vehicle consumption) let alone 100+ million for the entire planet, global lithium mining and refining capacity needs to scale up by 40x. FOURTY TIMES more lithium mining. Why anyone thinks that will actually happen, boggles my mind. China currently controls over 2/3 of the lithium refining market, as well.
I fully expect a roll back of many ICE-bans and EV sales mandates once reality sets in that A) the resources do not exist for the full scale transition, B) thus prices will not fall as far as politicians and manufacturers expect, and C) consumer demand will still lean towards the less fire prone vehicles that can be refueled to 400 miles in just 5 minutes at a gas station.
