Lol!
See Barry, I hate mixing in all of these facts with the perfectly crafted opinions on the interwebs. :)

What part of our fine state are you in? We're about an hour or so SW of Texarkana.

Apologies, sir. We're about two hours northwest of Houston.

Ya, that's so much easier to understand than pounds per square inch. LOL

I won't make any OBO offers these days, some people are just too weird. I only offer full price and only if I know the item is worth it. The last thing I want is someone I don't know being offended and I am on their property.

That's why I offend them before I even leave my house. If they are offended, I don't waste my time. Been working well for me. Yep, I'm that guy!

Buying “long distance” sure puts the buyer at a disadvantage.
It seems like the only way you can try to claw back some type of advantage over the seller is to bring a wad of cash and make your firm offer, or be very tough and point out the shortcomings of the item you are buying without ticking off seller TOO much.

I have really grown to dislike buying used equipment more than 50 miles from my home
I only got abused once and that was a long distance buy on a high crop tractor from a large dealership network. They knew what they were doing and it's made me especially vigilant around big dealerships. Distance matters.

Buy local, learn about the person and then consider the tractor. If problems surface or things don't add up or look right, they aren't. Life has a lot of predetermined destiny and what is to happen or not will happen or not. Go with the flow.

A good point is to treat the person you're buying from as you would want to be treated. Don't say bad things about their equipment or make anything personal. Thank them for their time and explain the concerns. I may explain that based on what I see, this is what I can pay. I say that others may pay more but I can't. They know the problems and often agree and take the $$. Every trader knows their first offer is their best offer.

I just hope I don’t have to buy too much more used equipment, but hope is not a plan.
Fortunately, prices are dropping a bit, but interest rates are nullifying the lower prices.

In the end, the equipment owner always pays. It’s rare to get an amazing deal.

You put the guy on a pedestal when you say he has equal or better experience to you and knows the engine oil was old and black and not just a fresh oil change to a severely neglected engine or on pre-combustion chamber diesels that seem to turn the new oil back before it gets out of the garage.
And again, you elevate the seller implying he knows what ALL the oil levels should be and that it didn't leak out after it was filled or leak into a different gearbox (or he didn't check the oil level on something extremely odd, like in the fuel injection pump).
I would like to hear what grade you give sellers of low grade equipment like, for example and not to degrade these, but Belarus tractors. Is everything that goes sideways on a Belarus the sellers fault because he thought it was a good tractor for the money at maybe 1/10th the price of an equally sized John Deere?
Some equipment is manufactured substandard form day one with poor seal designs, poor engineering ETC.
I never put much value at all in a statement that the THING was recently serviced. I don't even want dealerships to service my equipment. We all know the best, most educated technicians are the ones that the companies uses to change oil because they have a lot of free time.
I would suggest if you want that kind of assurance to have a local dealer inspect the equipment before you travel to buy it and then you can have 100% knowledge of what you are buying (again if you trust dealerships).

Even dealer can be shady, I bough my tractor used from a dealer. I saw it advertise on Kijiji, it was 10h drive to go get it. The tractor on the pictures was in a pristine condition, the tractor hours was so low I didn't think much of it, I was like with that amount of hours it is still new and they must of wash it, waxed it and the previous owner must of taken care of it... So I called and I was like I'll take it, then the dealer was like I will send you some pictures, I was like its ok I can tell it is in a pristine condition, and he was like I have nothing to hide ill send you some pictures... the pictures came in and where blurry as hell, then clue in they had the pictures of a brand new tractor in the ad not the actual one... when I got there I see it the primer bond is reacting to the steel so the paint is flaking off.... I was not impress who put a different pictures then the actual one when selling somthing I thought this was un ethical, but still took it. I drove 10 hours to go see it I already send a down and signed the terms before going there (as the request of the dealer if not he wasn't going to hold it for me) so I wasn't coming back empty handed. It was pre covid I still got a ''good deal'' with all things considered but still.

This has nothing to do with tractors but it plays to "relying on the seller's word". Some years ago I bought an antique coal forge blower (the hand crank type) off Ebay. I asked the seller if it leaked oil. "No leaks, turns and blows good" was the reply. It was bone dry. So the answer I asked was truthful, it didn't leak ... until I put oil in it! The joke was on me.
