Good morning!!!!

73°F and rain this morning, only got up to 81° today. Rained here pretty much all day. Lots of rumbles through the day, but no severe stuff. Stopped for a bit, and the skies started to clear up nicely shortly before sunset, but more coming overnight tonight, starting in a few minutes.

The rain put the kibosh on outdoors stuff, so Wife and I did our piddling on indoors stuff. I also got in a nap that fell just short of epic.

Guess we'll see what tomorrow brings.

Hope everyone is well.

Good evening, gents.

Drinking hot cup of coffee. 51° with clear skies this morning. Heading to 71° with lots of sun. Bought a jump seat for my Mule SxS. It was on back porch when I let Sassy out yesterday. Spent way to much time assembling it and making adjustments to make it fit my Mule. In afternoon helped neighbor remove some big limbs that were hanging in his trees. Then stayed up way to late watching NASCAR race. I can still hear generators running from Wednesdays storm. About all I plan to get done today is mow grass when it dries.

Prayers and and best wishes for everyone.

Good Morning All.

good morning all
63 headed up to mid 80's today, should be nice

lots of outside work planned for today
going to clear out garden and get rid of overgrown tomato vines that aren't producing much
my tomatoes came in early, had plenty, but the later vining tomatoes aren't happy at all.
Last year they kept producing, not this year.
and more bugs invaded; this batch was promptly hosed down with neem oil and no longer

Dennis, I bet those tomatoes were scooped right up at church.
every day is an opportunity for kindness

Don, has your garden survived the heat with irrigation or have cutbacks done them in?

that video of the crunchy grass was amazing. I've never seen ground crack like that.

RNG, this is for you.
who would think your favorite rose bush could burn your house down...
metal roof makes a lot of sense and I thought the idea of putting screen mesh over all openings
was important. I think most would be covered anyway, to keep out the critters, but now that screen is even
more important

of course keeping everything noncombustible within a couple hundred feet of your house sure does a number
on landscaping with plants and shade trees.
maybe we could get some artificial fireproof trees...

I was thinking of the early inhabitants of that hot area, likely living in Adobe homes.
and no local landscaping. The American Indians had it right.
Or they would take down a teepee and hustle out of there.
had to look that up. Tipi: Lakota for dwelling

I grew up in the woods, woods came up to back yard of house. Never worried about it.
We get enough rain here in Eastern PA there is rarely a drought.
Fire company did have to come once to put a small brush fire out in our woods, 50 years ago.
I don't remember what started it. Thankfully we had a small bulldozed forest road down to the stream in the middle of the woods
and the fire company brush truck was able to drive down that.

Now if I were over in the NJ Pine Barrens, this becomes very real.

Sorry you folks in Texas and S/W are so hot. Dangerous for older folks and you get stuck inside when you want to
go out. Along with other spares, sounds like having spare hvac capacitors is a good idea.
at least you don't have power problems this year.

temps here have been average to I think below average for August.
probably means it's overly hot somewhere else due to some blocking high or whatever, or position of jet stream.
nice to know why but you can't do much about it...

Good Morning!

God has given us another chance to get it right (or at least not screw up too badly).

65Fgoing to low 80s, afternoon thunderstorms forecasted through the evening.

Good day up at the woodlot. We planned on being out around noon, finally left almost 2PM. Mrs. handled the wood splitter solo for the first time, and stacked a pallet three feet high. I cleared another path trying to get a good path to bury irrigation pipe, but hit into a nest of some sort of flying insect (not stingy, just a CLOUD of them) so advanced in a different direction and worked on another walking path, then did the 50-hour Drive Motor oil change at 49.2 hours. I also installed a locking grease gun nozzle— and WOW what a difference it makes compared to the standard spring type— and greased the ring gear and swing motor. I think I would like to get one of those 4-ft grease gun hoses so I don’t have to attach to fitting, pump grease, detach from fitting, climb into cab, swing 45°,climb out of cab, walk around to other side, attach to fitting, pump grease, detach from fitting, etc…

at least with the long hose I can attach once and pump from the cab through the whole 360° rotation, then get out ONCE and switch to the other grease fitting.

Finished up the day with an evening fundraising concert put on by the Rotary at the local brewery, did not win the 50/50 —% the guy behind me did, but he bought over $100 worth of tickets…

church shortly, quick run to woodlot to run genny and pump for irrigation for a bit, then running to Big Town with the Doggos to Petsmart for bath and brush outs and nails etc.

I hope everyone has a happy healthy safe blessed day!

Good Morning
67 with a high of 80 today
Clear skies and gentle winds
In other words, a perfect day.

Yesterday was a slow day. Mostly cleaning up around the shop, moved some hay from the shed to the barn, did a little lathe project, picked up some hardware at TSC, never did the compressor, that will be this morning. An old friend came by with an RC model to fly, his first time in over a decade, so he wanted me nearby as a safety. He did fine, plane went home in the same condition it arrived. Short visit with son, grandson and DIL before calling it a day.

Today will be the compressor, maybe some paperwork, and hopefully a visit the RC club. And a quick walk with the string trimmer.

74 and a nice welcome wet morning...nearly 1.5 inches of rain overnight, and while I was outside this morning. Ground soaked it up and grass is already perking up, where it isn't brown.

Lou, looks like that fair would have been a great time. Love those Olivers.

RS, this is one of the best buys I've found at HF...48" floor scraper...I use it to scrape parts of the mower deck without crawling under it...they also have one with a shorter handle where the long one is too long to get an angle. I also keep a putty knife handy for close quarters.

All fuel used 93 octane non ethanol treated at end of season

Thanks Thomas
I swear my Husqvarna chainsaw will run off spit and will power.

I mixed up 2 gallons of 50:1 gas for it about 4 years ago. Non ethanol gas was used. Didn't treat it.

Anytime after that when I needed the saw, I would give the can a shake and then top up the gas in it.

I finally finished off that gas this spring. Never had a lick of trouble with that saw.

Currently 70° out. Was nice walking the pooch this morning. Sicked her on the grandkiddo to get him up when we got back from our walk The kissy monster makes a better alarm clock

We got an appointment this afternoon with a local camper sales place. Narrowed down and finally made a decision on what's gonna work the best for us to live in for a bit out on our property.

Settled on a fifth wheel with middle bunk room. It has a loft for extra sleeping and an extra 8x8 room off the kitchen.

One we are getting is used and missing the recliners for the living room. But has a couch in the bunk room. We're getting them to move the couch out to the living area.

Bunk room is gonna be used as a pantry/ extra closet space/ storage.

I'll get my buddy to haul it out to our property with his semi

Good Morning!!!! 68F @ 6:30AM. Sunny. High 96F. Winds light and variable.

Thanks for the set screw link, Kyle. I've passed it along, but no telling when he'll get aroundtuit...

Yes, it's mostly about defensible space when it comes to wildfire out here, Drew. I say mostly because the ember storm that swept through Paradise, and the fire tornado that almost took out all of Redding, CA, left very few homes standing like that one in Hawaii. And even if your home doesn't burn down, you still have to live with the smoke while it's burning everyone else's home.

My buddy down south has a landscape business and maintains a gas powered string trimmer, mower, blower, and hedge clipper. Just uses pump gas in all of them. Swears by Echo tools, but when they get to the point where they have trouble starting, just ends up replacing them. That's because shops want $250-$300 to replace the carb, and none will take time to rebuild a carb. Doesn't take much more money than that to just buy a new tool, and there's no waiting around while the shop takes their time with a repair. When I helped put a new roof on the back yard shed, we had to move out a couple old lawn mowers, blowers, and trimmers, kept in case some other part outside the engine breaks. No interest in battery powered tools because batteries don't last long enough, at least not yet.

Power went off at about 10AM, PG&E had it back on by noon. Never heard why it failed, but solar power system output dropped to almost nothing the rest of the day. I've see this before, and it always returns to normal the next day, so I wonder if it's something in the inverter software that's glitching. I'll need to keep an eye on it today to make sure it self heals again.

Ordered some additional tie down anchors for the van yesterday, along with a cargo net to hang behind the front seats. Found used-like-new on eBay for half the price with free shipping.

Also want to hang a curtain made from heavy moving blankets behind the front seats in the van to help keep the noise out of the driver's compartment, and the conditioned air in. Picked up a curtain rod last week, and just need to fab up some mounting brackets. So I'll fiddle with that today. Not sure what the rest of the day will bring.

Hope everyone enjoys the rest of their weekend...

   / Good morning!!!! #175,978
birds fed, car washed, took my time with it and dried it off with a towel.
Just as the sun was starting to shine on it. Done in time.
car wash has some carnauba wax in it and it spots if I don't wipe it in.
that saved sixteen bucks...

I washed the engine compartment carefully the last time I washed the car.
Then blew it out for a long time with an air pressure gun.
never thought it was a good idea for water to sit in the nooks and valleys.

while I had wash mop out, cleaned some house windows, the ones I see when I come in.
then worked my way around the side and washed down both doors and the areas around them.
then I tied up the hydrangeas which were flopping down in front. Blooms are huge and heavy,
stalks can't support them.

picked a few cherry tomatoes, see a few more on the vine.
think I'll go out later when I've cooled off and prune them back.
Anything that doesn't have flowers on it by now, off it goes.

have four eggplants getting plumper.
that level of excitement is fine with me

Morning all, 76 going up to 82 and sunny.
After fixing fill, found a leak in boiler, seems my work was a waste as the top of the boiler had rusted through when I got the pressure back up to normal. Had a guy in to look at it last night and he confirmed the lip on the top boiler cap is rusted through and the seal has gone.
I guess 40 years on this Tarn is a good run but now $$$.

Wife is sick, seems she was forced to wear a mask in Dr. office the other day and now has an infection on her face where the mask was. She will be on antibiotics for a while :-(

Be well

Hope wife gets better Ken hope not too much money to fix

RNG I know several land scapes guys do that, the hand held leaf blower costs more to fix than new but it was my dads so I keep it around
