My full size skid steer would have been optimal for this job but I didn’t want to go get it from a job and haul it back. This stand on machine continues to impress me. That’s a 20” bar on the saw for scale and the log is probably 12ft long. The log in the last picture is a 14ft hickory.
I want one, I'll add it to my Christmas list

Last evening, it was time to trim some trees,

Resized-20230903-201902-S.jpg

Then today it was off to my second story room, everyone calls my "treehouse", to do some eve extension, and YES it was hot today!

Resized-20230904-110428-S.jpg

I wanted the eve to cover my stairs, so we got-r-done!

I love the view from the "treehouse",

I'll add a bit of bracing under that eve later...

Slightly off topic:

Not sure if any of you wear boots with chainsaw cut protection, But Haix is offering $100 off their XR200 Chainsaw boot (European class 1 cut protection, 7" height). They normally sell for $345, but with the discount are now at $245.

Go to: HAIX Bootstore
and use this Code at checkout: AIRPOWER100

I owned some rubber Jonsered boots for years ago which I never wore. They were great if I was working in wet conditions, but just too darn uncomfortable if I had much walking to do. The Haix XR200 boots look like a leather hiking boot and are very comfortable. I've owned - and wore out - dozens of pairs of hiking boots over the years and put thousands of miles on them, and these are as comfortable as the best of them. They are holding up well. I've owned these for about 8 or 9 years now. I'm not a full time logger, but I spend a fair amount of time in them logging, firewood harvesting, and doing trail construction & maintenance in all seasons. I'm very happy with them.

Haix also makes Their Protector Prime (9" tall) and Protector Ultra (8" tall) chainsaw boots with the higher class 2 protection. Back when I bought my XR200 boots, the only other option was the Prime. 9" was too tall for my taste, so I went with the XR200 boots. If I were buying today, it would be either the Ultra or another pair of the XR200. I do think the tread on the sole of the Ultra and Prime boots is a design that gives better traction, but they also felt a bit "clunkier" on my feet when I tried them on at a logging expo here in Vermont a few years ago. It may be that I would not notice that, once I got them broken in.

EDIT: In my experience, the XR200 boots run true to size. I wear a size 9 medium width sneaker, and that size in the boot fit me perfectly. The Haix folks tell me that the Prime and Ultra boots tend to run big. Most people order them a half size smaller than their regular shoe.

I have a pair of the lighter weight zip up boots from Haix. They are super lightweight, the zipper still works great and they're cool in summer. 1 downside is the soles telegraph the terrain at times. Overall decent, I got them on factory seconds deal & I couldn't find why they were rejected as firsts.

Are those chainsaw cut protection boots? If so, I'm not familiar with them.

No, they're not, just tossing in my 2 cents on Haix boots.

OK, time to put the wheel back on my tractor and get it back to work. First, I bolted the center on,

Resized-20230826-103213-S.jpg

then on goes the rim,

Resized-20230826-104440-S.jpg

Everything bolted up as it should, so time to finish loading my wagon,

Resized-20230826-105117-S.jpg

and sawing the logs to firewood lengths,

Resized-20230826-130305-1-S.jpg

and once loaded, I headed to the splitting area.

Remember, you ain't loaded unless you're overloaded!! lol

I still can’t believe that it wasn’t covered under warranty. :D

My mini excavator is still my favorite tool for cutting firewood but this stand on skid steer is a close second. The narrow grapple doesn’t waste a lot of room that you can’t cut and it’s super fast getting on and off of this thing. Climbing on and off a machine 50 times when you’re shuffling logs gets tiring.

Well, it was another fantastic day weather wise here, sunny 70s with a breeze, and my buddy wanted to finish splitting this wagon load we cut and got started on a couple weeks ago,

I said before how I HATE these metal baskets and have turned them down when offered to me. One of the biggest reasons is, having to close the pallet forks a bit to move them, but I figured out a cure for that, so I'm now trying them again,

Resized-20230909-105113-S.jpg

This works very well, so one problem solved!

Anyway, with an empty wagon, off we go to cut another load from the two BIG oaks I cut down some time ago. One tree is now all cleaned up, so we started taking all the limb wood from the second one,

Resized-20230909-122846-S.jpg

Some of the limbs were quite big too,

Resized-20230909-132630-S.jpg

and soon we had another big load to split!

Resized-20230909-135251-S.jpg

AND there's more than another big load yet to get!

Resized-20230909-135354-S.jpg

but that's a job for another day!
