My current battery is a Group 24N and 13 years old. It still starts the tractor good, but I want to replace it before cold weather is here so it doesn't let me down when i got a pile of snow to move. I discovered that I can't buy a Group 24N battery anymore and all the Group 24 automotive batteries are now 9" high vs my 24N battery is 8". It doesn't look to me that the existing 'bolt(hook)', Ref. #110 on the Kubota Parts diagram is long enough to accommodate an extra inch of battery height. Has anyone found a different battery to fit the existing hold down bracket or what have you done to mount the taller battery? I'd prefer not to resort to using a bunge cord to hold the battery down. I also thought of drilling holes in the base metal at the front of the battery and installing vertical hold down bolts with a bracket. Not a big problem, but I thought I'd check with you guys in case someone had a simpler solution. I guess you know your tractor is getting old when the battery sizes change while you still own it.

I bought a group 24 - 6 for my L3010 3 years ago - 8 - 7/8" height and it fit fine. The only problem I had was finding one with the correct terminal orientation. I got it at a local NAPA.

You should try the extent of your battery hold-down hardware. It might still reach an inch higher battery. But overall, the battery Greoup really does not matter. The only things that matter are: Dimensions to fit, terminal orientation (to get the + and - on the correct ends as well as front/back location), and your choice of how much you want/need in capacity of cold cranking amps, etc. A tape measure and a trip to your choice of battery store solves it.
Another couple of comments: Over the years I have found that batteries intended to fit VWs are often "shorter" and have recessed or not so high terminals (though that is not your issue.) Just ignore the battery Groups and specs, note which terminal orientation you need, and go in with a tape measure.

Thanks for the input. The hold down bolt(hook)s seem plenty adequate in the pictures sent by Gordon for his 87/8" battery height. Either his bolt(hook)s are longer than mine or I didn't measure correctly. I extended mine to the end of their thread and it looked like it only raised the hold down bracket about a 1/2" over my existing 8" high battery. My tractor is 2002 vintage, maybe later models had longer bolt(hook)s to accommodate taller batteries. My bolt(hook)s measure about 10.5 inches.
