Loader bucket won't fully curl up

Have JD 5085E with a H 240 loader. While doing dirt work the bucket is extended and will retract about 4 inches and freeze up. Was working fine and I heard a pop. There are no leaks anywhere.

Sounds like the classic issue of a quick connect popping out. I suggest that you check all of the quick connects, pull them out and reseat them to make sure. But first, with the engine off, move the joystick in all directions to release any pressure.

What kind of dirt work? Back dragging with bucket fully extended/dumped? Bent a rod and will only retract til the bent part binds in the gland?

Or possibly popped the piston off of the rod.

You're probably right but I was thinking if the nut fell off 4" might be about the distance the rod could travel through the piston before it quit blocking the hole and let fluid bypass. That would likely only happen once as the rod probably wouldn't line up with the hole to go back in the piston.
