Should I consider a diesel for residential?

The BX burns something under a gallon an hour mowing 3 rough acres with a small hog. The GR maybe half of that (haven't really measured it) dealing with a steep 1/2 acre lawn. Wouldn't go back to the Dear John gas machines for anything.

The AWD GR was expensive, but well worth it for my situation.

I like my diesel mowers, but they have their place. Residential has a lot of variables. My residential mowing is 2 acres, some of it a little rough. I just bought my second diesel mower, a used F2560 72" front-mount, to go with my 60" ZD1211. Others might be mowing a 7000 square foot lot covered mostly by the house and driveway. For that an electric mower would work. I have an Oregan 16" 40-V battery powered mower for some finish work where neither the ZD nor the F will fit. It is faster than a weed-eater.
You will like the F2560! I have had one for about 20 yrs and just added another one. Found a snowblower for it this week, been in a crate til last winter, used about 3 times. Still has all the paint on the augers.

One other thing about, in this case, used older Kubota equipment. If you find one that’s been taken care of, they are heavier and better built than anything new. They are like a tank!

I have run a Kubota ZG227 zero turn commercially for years. Nice machine with a 54 deck and 27HP gas V twin engine. It has a true hydrostatic transmission with all the pumps and motors inside it. No external pumps, motors, and belts to fiddle with. Never had to do any service except replace the hydro filter. The transmission is very strong though, and you have to handle the turn levers like a safecracker to avoid tearing grass in the turn.
I have the factory mulching kit on it. Does a beautiful job with no clippings, and mulches leaves completely in the fall.
However, the engine does bog down in wet grass. I should have gotten the diesel engine version. The higher torque will give you consistent high blade tip speed and a beautiful job, no matter how heavy and wet the grass is. If you do a lot of mowing when conditions are not perfect, diesel is the way to go.
A diesel ZG221 with 54 deck and 600 hours was $6700. in June in craigslist. Sold in a week. The values stay high for diesel equipment. I think it is worth it.
I need a mowing tractor also. Run a 425 Deere with a 54 for that. I have to have 3 to be sure i have one which is running when I need it.

This is a question I faced years ago when I bought a cummins.. I was told if I didn't tow allot, don't buy a cummins, but I bought it anyway only because it was a clean 97..

So back to the kubota diesel.. Ive seen a few, but figured any diesel after around 2000 had a bunch of emissions equipment on it like the trucks.. Is this the case? Sorry for a open ended question, but I don't even know if kubota used a turbo..

Thanks!

ZD1011 diesel Zero Turn 80 hours - $8,950

If your looking for a tractor a diesel is a good choice, just do Not buy Kubota. They do not care about their customers. Case in point look at all the owners of the B3350 who are left hanging by having to pay to repair of all the Regen issues. The so called lifetime warranty until 2099. The cost is only covered if it is still under the 2 year warranty, or they get the right code when it's scanned.

Diesel mower referred to is too small an engine to have regen, so no worry on that point.

The only Kubota model with known regen issues is the discontinued B3350. And Kubota provides a lifetime emissions system warranty on those models. What more can you want?
