What’s an acceptable range?

Must be some pretty big gas tanks in some of these vehicles.

My saturn....10gal tank....35-40 MPG.....350-400 range
Wifes nissan 12 gal tank...30-35MPG......360-420 range
My ram......52 gal tank....8mpg towing....416 range (11-12mpg not towing so ~600)
Our last jeep compass 2.4L....12gal tank....26 MPG....little over 300
Current acadia 3.6L....23-24MPG and 20gal tank....so "close" to 500

I really never had a car with much over a 10-12 gallon tank so a 350 MPG range has always been about the norm for me

Our 93 Suburban had a 42 gallon tank.
Our 2013 Impala has a 17 gallon tank.
Our 2003 Suburban has a 31 gallon tank.
Our 2020 Outback has an 18.5 gallon tank.

Reminds me of a friend back in the early 80s that had a GMC step side pickup with a short bed, lift kit, 38" tires, big motor, etc... due to mods and such, it had a 12 gallon tank. It got about 6mpg. His girlfriend lived about 9 miles from our house. To pick her up and bring her over, then take her back home later in the evening and come back home, it was 1/2 a tank of gas!

Reminds me of a joke from the '70's gas crisis.
Guy in a big Caddilac V8 pulls up to a stoplight.
Next lane over a guy on a Honda 90 pulls up.
Caddy driver asks Honda driver "How many miles do you get per tankfull?"
Honda driver replies "About 200"

Is that SD gas?
My '97 PSD (4x4 CC LB, no lift other than factory + bigger tires) will comfortably get 450 with a bit of margin, not towing... way too far for driving that thing in one go!

Our newest car has a range of about 650 miles. 2021 Hyundai Ioniq Blue HEV. I have measured usually 59-61 mpg when filling up. 10-12 gallon tank. The computer in the car estimates much higher mileage, as much as 5%. The last time I bought gas (late SEP), I think I paid $5.30/gal.

Sadly, no longer made, in the switch over to fully electric cars. I believe it has the highest EPA mileage rating of any past production car sold in the US.

HA! My great uncle used to have a Chrysler wagon with the big engine. He'd load a printing press into the rear ( well over 1000 pounds) and drive it from Florida to Wisconsin every spring, and make the return trip in the fall. I can only imagine what his mileage was!

My older Dodge truck with 5.9 Cummins will travel about 650 miles, but the diesel tank is 32 gallons. My VW Passat TDI diesel used to go about 700 miles on a 18.5 gallon tank. I loved that car, but VW made me a buy back offer I couldn’t refuse because of the emissions issue.

My F350 has a 500 mile range since the aux tank was removed. Before that, my bladder controlled the range! The truck I am sitting in right now has a range of a little over 1600 miles but I seldom push it past 1500. I really hate to push one when it runs out of fuel!

My cab and chassis ton truck came at the expense of a fuel tank apparently. It hold 25 gallons or so. My other ton truck has a dump cylinder between the frame rails and it only holds 16 gallons. The 16 gallon tank is kinda lacking when it gets 11 mpg but the 25 gallon is acceptable. My dad’s regular bed truck holds over 40 gallons which exceeds the 500 mile criteria. My dump truck has an 88 gallon saddle tank which even with its lousy mileage would go over 600 miles.
